Be sure to ask the shop what a good wait time is on that paint hardening up fully. I remember after shaving the tailgate on one of my previous trucks, I had it repainted by a friend of ours. I had to go to Home Depot a few days later to get some stuff, and when I brought the tailgate down, it barely tapped the lumber cart and it permanently dented the paint. You couldn't see it from a distance, but you could if you got up close enough. Man, I miss having family friends that could paint...

@Shifty , on your pic, are scratches along the exterior gate lip?
its been about 4 days since shop did its clearcoat polish and day temps have peaked to 72 this week.
I did a hose down w/wash mitt and chamois wipe last night. Will call B&P about wax or some type of finish protection; forecast of drizzle-rain til Mon-Tues. [perfect overcast wx for wax job].

I'm no expert, but I have painted quite a bit and I always waited at least a month before I did anything to the paint, wash or wax. Of course things could have changed and the shop that did it will have the proper info. Looks good though and a great price for a job like that.

Ya to tag on what @chunk said. When I had my old truck repainted I was told to not wash for a month and no wax for 3 months.

Same here, they told me to wait 3 months before waxing. "Paint needs to off-gas for at least several weeks". Last brand-new car I bought they said to wait 6 months before using the sealer they gave us as a detail package.

Wouldn't it suck to fuck up your brand new $4k paint job while taking steps you think will protect it?

Always ask the paint house. I've said this previously (maybe even in this thread, I dunno).

Well, Im glad I mentioned wax job, since I was already to head out shopping for wax and weekend wx is perfect for that.
One side of me says: I think if fresh water [no detergent or wash compound] 5 days after shop rub out, creates a flawed result, not sure the paint product is worth its cost. Most collision repairs/resale repaints are onto to a drive thru wash within a week or less. Usually, as in my case, bcuz rest of vehicle is such a dusty mess and we're anxious to get a clean look at the new surfaces.
Havent got a reply to my text to B&P yet...would think if hyper critical, he'd made mention?
Other side of me says: ...But I defer, since I dont know automotive paint from shinola...
In either case, I asked what his protection product choice would be.
Anyone else w/product suggestions, please advise. Thanks everyone!
