Has anyone had their RCI skid plate creak significantly when turning the wheel lock to lock and going over off camber parking lot transitions? I get something that sounds like a ball joint or tie rod end popping really loud and finally tracked it down to the skid plate. RCI says they've never heard of it, and I tried putting a piece of weather strip in there to dampen the sound but it's still happening. its between the rear of the skid plate and the rear cross member. Yes all bolts are torqued, and no frame cracks or anything else seems to explain the movement.

Yup, mine made noise for a bit. I put a nylon flat washers between the skid and crossmember and torqued all the bolts a bit more. Took care of it for me.
*Edit* I also got rid of the bolt capturing washers when I put nylons up there.

I’ve had this issue - especially going over speedbumps fast. I stacked rubber washers between the plates and the crossmember and the noise is pretty much gone.

My truck sounds like an old man's joints whenever I turn or brake. It sounds awful. Its strictly from my TRD skid plate plus my full Talon's plates. I need to use some washers like the above posters have suggested.

Toyota actually has a specific fix for the TRD skids, they sell it as a kit I think.

Wow I’m glad I’m not alone! Nylon washers a Home Depot thing or what?

I spray the frame down with something like Amsoil HD metal protector before reassembly, never had an issue with noise. Also never seize on the bolts

as has been mentioned a couple bucks spent on some rubber washers takes care of the creak/popping noise. I have the engine and tranny plate so I put a washer between the crossmember and between the skids (total of four). picked mine up at menards but I'm sure most hardware stores carry these

I have been chasing a noise for a month. Just installed new suspension not long ago and thought it was the rear leafs making noise.

Yesterday while off road it was doing the “pop” type noise more often and I was able to feel in the floorboard and better pin point its location. Before it would just pop once pulling in a driveway. I unbolted the rear of the RCI skid last night and put some folded up nitrile gloves where it goes against the cross member to test my theory. Found this thread after!

Low and behold the noise is completely gone! Ordered some proper 1/4 rubber material to replace the gloves. My RCI skid has been on for about 3 years and never made a noise until recently, all bolts were tight.

I will have to remember to get the link from my wife for the special foam tape that we recommend.

not a super common issue, probably 1 in 1000.

    Not sure at this point.
Since I installed my RCI skids 3 years ago, haven’t heard any squeaking sounds coming from it. It’s been off for a while now, but I’ll report again once I install them back on.

Yeah, my rci does it too. If I tighten those 3 middle bolts that sit up in the tube riser, it usually stops briefly but always come back.
