I've got a 10.2 budget build I've been working on.. so far have traded rc bumpers and sliders for the parts. Only cash spent was the "vintage" wheels.. IMG_20220715_020508_01.jpg

The acx24's got me into the hobby though and I've got a few of them. Just slapped this little u4 buggy body together for a comp tonight. PXL_20221021_032234315.jpg

Through my BIL, I finally found a solid deal on a Team Xray buggy. This guy took fantastic care of it, and came with a ton of extra parts. I and my son (9) are still beginners, but are looking for a decent remote in the 100’ish range for the buggy?

Got a Redcat Wendigo and a Traxxas rustler. Wendigo is fun but a little to tippy for my taste even with brass wheel spacers to widen it and lower the cog. Should probably drop it to a 2s also.

The Traxxas I have a love hate relationship with. When it runs it’s freaking fantastic and it can take a beating but the first few outings I had a dead esc out of the box and then it stripped the plastic spur gear out and then it stripped the pinion out. Upgraded to a metal spur gear and a better slipper clutch and it seems to be fine now but I’m nervous every time I yank the throttle.

Any recommendations on a good 1:28 scale? Got my son a cheap one for Christmas and it’s great for him but he gets a bit distracted when dad’s big ones come out. Want to get something more that size but still easy to upgrade if I want. This is the one I got my son. Just a cheap Amazon jobber.

Considered just getting you one of those cheapos to play with him until he can learn control something better?

If you are buying that size just to play with him, do you really need all the upgrades and goodies on something he'll likely want to outgrow to be like dad's bigger toy anyhow?

Just playing a bit of devils, you do you.

Unless you buy used, at that price point my guess is you are buying Chinese knockoffs and upgrades and durability will be limited. I've been out of RCs for a while, so maybe things have changed. Hobby grade RCs from a hobby store will probably make for a better experience...though at a cost.

My kids Torment (ECX is HorizonHobby brand as far as I know) has been amazingly durable, but it's slightly out of that price range at $120-150 + batteries and charger. It only needed new electrics as its a 1st gen, and apparently you cant get those transmitters any more (my son broke his). They have a Ruckus version which is similar in style to your kid's truck, and they have upgraded to Spektrum electronics.

I've been looking at the Axiel SCX24 Rock Crawlers (also out of your budget @ $150ish) different platform than stadium racing, but tons of metal parts.

This is mine. I have sent this off 15 to 20 mounds of dirt and it keeps on going. Still get in trouble with it if I am not paying attention. They are fun that is for sure!:)

the guy that just bought the XRT in one week spent about 4K at the hobby shop. He had bought a big truck snd a car and wrecked the truck a few times and took it in for repairs then he wanted to go faster so he bought the XRT!! Those are pricey and run on two batteries. It is hard to keep the front tires down!!!:)

I’ve been looking at the axial but I prefer more stadium style trucks. Crawling is fun but I’d rather do it in my truck than an RC car. Tearing around the yard and power sliding through dirt though is a blast with an RC car.

Been looking at this one and it’s got some good reviews and the YouTube video reviews make it sound pretty decent. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08BYCFNC6

I’ve got a Traxxas Maxx and a base stampede. My stampede has started having a issue where sometimes it doesn’t seem to have any power, and sometimes it’ll take off with minimal power and then seems like it’s get more power the faster it goes. I suspect the esc or battery has anybody else had a similar issue?

The body with all the decals and "hard parts" is $65-70 depending on where you get it. Kyosho offers the same Fazer platform with a lift, monster truck tires and a van body. I wonder what the Tundra would look like with a small lift and scale offroad wheels/tires.
