Spent two hours bashing it up with the new tires. Grip is amazing. The ability to correct and punch my way out of slides is almost like a 4x4 now. I can cruise towards jumps and hit the throttle last second to get the speed up too, where before that would just be a spin out. I was taking sharp turns that I couldn't do with the trenchers. I did lots of high speed runs too.

Looked over the tires, no noticeable damage or wear yet. I'll report back after a few more days of bashing.

My neighbor hit the field too. He has a 2wd and a 4x4 slash, he decided to throw a lot of the 4x4 parts onto his 2wd, including the computer. It has some sort if yaw control that keeps his front wheels aimed forward if the truck pitches left or right, pretty sweet. I think I need to do that to mine now.

 

That sounds like the tsm feature that the traxxas vxl models come with?

@Darkness the tire review is killer! I gotta try them, did you do rears or all 4?

 

I did all 4 but the rears are most of the benefit. I'll get some pictures of them.

 

Here's the tires after today's fun. I did run them on the street a bit as well, whipping a few turns on asphalt but didn't slide or burnout there. Not sure if I even could from how grippy these are.


Rear doesn't show any real wear, the tiny nubs are still there. The trenchers are below

Dang those are sharp! Im gonna get some rears at least. I’ve got the bfg krawler pattern in the front, which sucked in the rear but actually steer very nicely

 

Rears will help a lot. I was pretty surprised how much better my truck hooked up today. Even in loose stuff, there's a big pile of thin sand that we use like a berm to scrub off speed. Last week I would sink into it if I went over the top. That didn't happen today.

 

Yup, you're right. Its kind of like a gyro. Looks like they're $40, I'm going to hold off on messing with that for now. I really want another body, I'm thinking the baja bug. I'm tired of my tires hitting the body constantly.

 

I cut the rear fenders completely off on my factory truck body. They hit even with the body mounts all the way up

 

I have considered doing the same but it has two cracks in the bed area so it will probably disintegrate if I remove the fenders.

Kinds like these little buggy style bodies too, but I have a soft spot for Beetles. I may try a Tecate paint theme and aim for a Class 5 look. Like this but with the chopped up class 5 body.

 

Well Luis i ended up ordering the gladiators afterall.

The traxxas monster truck tires are too squishy. Just feeling them i can tell they will not be responsive. Im sure prolines would be stiffer, but they don’t have any AT patterns. Oh well! The 2.2 tires and the 2.8 tires are basically the same exact height anyways

 

Wtf…. You guys are having way tooo much fun with the RC cars and I’m over here putting up with kids trying to teach them baseball…

Put the vxl motor on the slash 2wd. Holy moses it’s quick! Now I actually have to have throttle control or it just spins out, even while rolling. It will do a burnout regardless of current wheel speed if floored….

 

Soften the preload on the shocks and maybe even add some weights. With 2wd, and vxl, you are going to be cooking rubber at will.
Must be fun!!!

I put lighter rear springs too. If the back is too soft it slams hard on a jump. I wonder if the higher CG chassis would squat better with all this power and hook up

 

Those vxl3 systems are no joke in a 2wd lol I put that in my sons $60 voltage and had to put wheelie bars. Thing became a beast.

 

So @Darkness wasn’t kidding about these gladiator tires. The traction is so freakin amazing, rather than spinning out, it was pushing forward non stop!!!

 

@Hbjeff glD you have the same experience. Its damn close to having 4wd. Maybe better since I don't have all the extra parts that can break like a 4x4.

 

couldnt agree more. A guy at the spot even asked me if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive because it was ripping the turns. I was actually have trouble turning, the front needs more tractions now because the rear is propelling it so strong

 

Yeah I had to adjust my style a bit. I'm thinking of adding a bit of weight to the front end. I'm also going to copy my neighbors move, he put little piece of angled aluminum across the front shock tower to get the shock upper mounts more vertical. His shocks were binding before he did this. Hard to explain but it basically moved the upper mounts further out. On my truck I noticed the springs rub the side of the shock so it might be worth trying out.

 

this is similar to the concept of the proline protrac suspension kit. I run the gtr shocks on mine and the spring isn’t rubbing

Edit….upon closer inspection, the shock is rubbing on the tower. The adjustment collar appears to hit it on hard landings

Gave the UDR a new look after the weak ass body kept tearing through the mounts.

Any UDR owners have any issues breaking the front torsion bar? I've broke 3 without breaking any other parts at the same time. I don't bash the truck, mostly track, beach, street or yard driving, so it seems weird. All other components on the truck are straight and it has not had any major crashes.



You can see I removed the torsion bar and links but it handles much better with it than without. I looked at the Hot racing aluminum upgrade, but I don't really want it too stiff. I think the OEM set-up works fantastic when it's not broken!
