I had just traded in my ram 1500 for a Toyota tundra but a few days later a rattle noise can be heard ? Sounds seems to be coming from my passenger side ? Any thoughts

truck had 96000 miles on it with the 5.7 non fuel flex

The 5.7 has a fairly common "Tundra Tick" caused by loose timing chain tensioners. Most common on the driver's side. Some report 5w-30 (instead of the recommended 0w-30) helps to quiet it down. To the best of my knowledge it's never caused an actual failure (it's just annoying).

Not sure if that's what you're hearing. The Tundra tick is usually only present on startup for a minute or two at most.

I am glad you are happy once they fix this for you. Let us know what it is.

It took me several months to switch from picking this truck apart to being happy with it. I had three Rams prior to this and missed every single one of them compared to the ride of the Tundra, but now... I wont go back unless I am forced to lol.

Yeah I love those hemis in the rams I owned a single cab 2012 RT but there was also a ticking sound and knocking sounds coming from it but I know those things have lifters and cam issues

I was one of those rare guys, or so I am told....

2013 Lone Star - sold at 86k miles. No issues or dealer trips.
2014 Laramie - sold at 105k miles. No issues or dealer trips.
2015 Longhorn ED- Totaled at 107k miles. No issues or dealer trips. (bought used and the carfax was clean when I purchased)

Definitely not right. Sounds like something attached to the engine is loose and rattling. Take a look at the heat shields around the exhaust. Also might look at service history as it may provide a clue if something wasn’t replaced or tightened correctly.

No check engine light? Almost sounds like it could be a broken valve spring but you typically get a misfire code…

That’s probably tensioner #1 drivers side.. maybe 3? Whichever is high on the passenger side. I have the same issue. When it gets that loud it’s time to bring it in to have it replaced. Once a tensioner goes no weight of oil is going to fix it. Mine was pretty quiet until one morning when I let it idle on my inclined driveway after not warming up/building oil pressure. Was way worse when I came back out of the house.

That definitely sounds like chain slap. :( His seems to have more rattle.

I have that exact same noise and it seems to come and go at random. Curious to see what you find out, please post an update if it is diagnosed correctly.

Invested now, keep us posted, good luck with it in the shop.

Another note- had a 2016 Ram 1500 before my tundra, manifold seals went bad resulting in a terrible tick and had to replace, something else broke during that repair so I offloaded it before I started down a Fiat rabbit hole.

Does sound like chain slap. Does this typically happen on a cold start once the truck comes down from high idle? And if so, does it go away after the truck is running for a little bit? Check out this youtube video from The Car Care Nut and my comment pinned to the top with a better description of the issue.

It doesn’t sound like an again slap sounds more like a rattle and when it warms up I really don’t hear it as much I remember as well when i cold start it it takes a while for it to warm up unless that’s a tundra thing or that’s a other issue as well but other than that it’s still at the dealership

Some are saying add more oil or it could be a heat shield but Iam thinking as well it’s chain issue but will see .
