Yeah, looks like they've both had price reductions over time. The only thing I don't see on the Rebel (might be there and just can't see it in the pics) is the trailer brake controller for the tow package.

43K for a Pro that only has 3200 miles on it is a steal from what I've seen.

Both are one owner rigs. It would totally be an individual situation on what truck to go with. Fuel economy is close enough to be a non issue (I can math it out if you want proof), but the OTD cost of the Ram is significantly less. If I had to choose, I would still go Toyota, because I could afford it and with only 1 vehicle reliability is my #1 priority. I've had Chrysler/Dodge/Ram vehicles, and I just wouldn't have one as my only set of wheels. that said, if I made twice the money I make now, I would just lease a new truck every 2-3 years and have a car for a DD, so the truck would 99% chance wind up being a Ram. The interiors are so comfy and the toys in them are fun.

Yea the trd pro is sick but so is the rebel. Both are good looking trucks i would rather buy something with 10,000 miles than new so the price goes down alot like the rebel.

Right, different priorities and situations. I can totally see it, but I'm not sure how much that mileage would drop a Pro. I never really priced them because I didn't want to buy used. I have terrible luck with used vehicles. That Pro is also a Certified truck, so that's a bonus warranty that would make me totally ok with it. That pro is listed for just about 3k over what my truck was OTD, so if they wiggled down at all I would have had a hard time choosing between what I have and that Pro. Still think I'd take the truck I have though, because I am in love with Cavalry Blue.

Cap less fillers suck. I have that on a 2018 Chevy Silverado and I’ve already had the fuel pump replaced at 25k miles. The shop manager said it’s not uncommon for vehicles that spend much time off road to have fuel pump issues. Dirt builds up inside the filler and falls down in when you put the nozzle in.

Ok, to give you an idea of just how GOOD that Pro deal is, here is a shot from Autotrader. The Pro you linked is the one in the middle that I circled the mileage on, and it is the only one that is certified pre-owned. Look at the one above it and below it for mileage. (This search was across the whole country too)

Ok, as to resale - its no dispute the Toyota wins.

As mentioned earlier - resale only matters when/if you sell...and if you think your going to buy any car and resell for breakeven or better within a decade - your probably dillusional. Unless you maintain a 48 month loan on a domestic or 60 on Toyota/Honda - you will be negative equity on the loan for first 30 months.

Again, I'm looking at used...thats important to consider.

My choice - a 2018 Tundra SR5 with some upgrades at 30-31k (got choice of DC or CM at this pricepoint) 4wd and between 18-40k miles.

    Or

2019 Rebel with Hemi - again 4wd, 15k miles - 31k - only downsides are small screen and most seem to be the 5" screens.

I figure in 5 years the Tundra would be worth 12-15k. The Ram - ??? Possibly 8-10?

The Tundra beats Ram in every "logic" catergory...resale, reliability, reputation - but the Ram just looks fun.

To me a truck is a plaything - i'm not an offroader, but this will not be my daily ride either - just a weekender. If it was a daily drive - the choice might be more about logic.

100% honest, for a weekender toy I would lean toward the Ram, but ONLY on 2 conditions.

1st - Every bell and whistle I thought I might want would have to be on it. If I am going to settle on the toy list, then I might as well get the Tundra. Toys are the only thing the Ram has in it's favor to me.

2nd - I'd go the Ram route if I didn't intend to mod or upgrade anything. I don't know how much aftermarket support the truck is going to have when it's gets reworked every few years.

Bonus - Can you snag either of them as certified for that bonus warranty?

If the both those conditions are met, the Ram is going to be a better short term toy than the Toyota.

As to dealing with the "tech" in vehicles and all the safety equipment post accident...I have a little experience working around this stuff and I will say this.

NOTHING is built to be repaired after even a moderate accident. Makers build there vehicles to aborb energy - and the transfer of energy through the design makes repair a nightmare. Any insurance adjuster consistently repairing cars at 50-60% of their value needs their head examined imho.

Better to kill em and let it be the next guys problem. Positioning of the electronics is not a strongsuit for Toyota either. Radar sensor on the grille and blindspot on the quarter behind the cover - takes a 1500-2k loss into a 5-6k job real easily - all parts and service $$.

As bad as modern Toyotas are.. Subaru remains the worst in my opinion. Seriously - would just as well never try to repair a structure on one...it never seems to go well.

Ram/Dodge...its about average. Not great, but not horrible either.

Of course alot comes to skill of the tech. Good techs can fix anything at a price. Bad ones could mess up the simplest of fixes.

I should add to my previous post, whichever truck you get we expect pictures and for you to stick around. No buying a Ram and ditching us.o_O

    No plans on that.

Good forum and solid group of posters here. Alot to be learned regardless of brand alliegance of the site.

Glad to see no brand blinders on here, unlike some other sites. My feeling is simply every brand has its hits and misses and every brand has a target audience. Some just have more misses than hits.

Like I have said..I'm 98.9% Tundra. End of the day its a vehicle, not a marriage. If I decide I made a mistake - punt and try again. Just easier to trade out of a Tundra into a Ram than vice versa.

Now the back up camera shot was during the day because at night it’s no where near as bright. That’s why a lot of 2019 + Ram owners are installing after market lights in the back .

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this , one of the guys on the other forum traded in his 2019 Ram for a Tacoma , he said he was just having to many issue with the Ram , nothing major but a pita nonetheless .

If you’re seriously considering the Rebel , look inside the drivers door at the build date , it’ll give you the day / month and hour it was built . If it was built in 2018 I’d go with the Tundra hands down , if it was built in 2019 then it would be a consideration .

That’s a Rebel Black edition , they cost a little more than the regular Rebels and they don’t have the red on the inside either plus the skid plate on the front is blacked out instead of the silver and the wheels are all black

Lol stepped up? The 2019+ Ram 1500 is a disaster. Plagued with chronic issues. The older ones are more reliable if you had to compare.

They just say it's "dated" They want a big screen and cameras.....and a locker. I don't want or need the electronics that will break down in the long run.

Whenever I hear anyone say "It's Got a Hemi", I wanna smash their teeth out. They are polysphereicle in design which may other brands also use. "Hemi" is just a marketing ploy for idiots.

So sitting in a CDRJ dealer, following up on a used Tundra.

Its out with their sales manager now.

Said all I needed to know. Dealer has choice of 3 Rebels and Tundra used to demo...takes a Tundra.

Of course missing the 11a appointment not reflecting well on them.

Well to be fair if you could drive all the Rams you want any day wouldn’t you try the new kid on the block ? I bet if it were a Toyota dealer the sales manager may have taken the Ram if for no other reason than to get your own perspective on the competition .

    Sure - in private.

I'd NEVER let myself be publicly be seen driving "the competition" - testing on my time is one thing...putting it in my driveway is another.
