Can you clarify the question? If people wanna get technical the trucks are now under the brand name of RAM and dodge trucks stopped being produced a few years ago. It was just a marketing thing that the new guy in charge of the Dodge brand implemented after Fiat and Chrysler merged. It's also the same time that the ram head symbols disappeared off of the dodge cars, and they adopted the dual ribbon symbol. Purely for brand differentiation. Not sure that answered your question.

This is better than nothing. If it weren't for the plague, I would just go to a dealership and test drive one to see all the ins and outs. Not going to buy one, I love my Tundra too much, but I can appreciate all vehicles.

Were there any significant changes from the older truck to the new? Interiors same/similar, etc.?

Interiors were similar , old one had the 8.4 screen new one has the 12” screen , the big difference is the new one doesn’t have the air ride and the new one has LED lighting

I don’t have that but apparently in some of the early builds the battery would die fairly quickly

wow you're one of the lucky ones cause i heard some people had issues and the dealers didn't have the parts to replace them. Nice color you picked by the way on the new one

Other than reliability I don’t get all the hate for RAM’s. I contemplated getting one with an extended warranty. Toyota is great on reliability but they have lost all passion and enthusiasm towards automobiles. I love that my truck is rock solid but the only thing more boring is a Camry. FCA loves cars/trucks and it shows. They look great, have tons of powerful options, and have the modern luxuries you would expect from a 50k purchase.

They did away with it as standard equipment on the Rebel , it’s an option on every model it’s standard only on the Limited now.
For the first 2 years it was awesome , rode like a dream and any payload you put in it the air ride would self level so the truck always looked like it was empty .

I get the reliability stand point but as I’ve said before I haven’t had any power train or electronic issues with any of mine , in fact if it wasn’t for the air suspension I’d still have the 2016 . Owners in the warmer climates have had it for years and swear they’ve never experienced any issue with it but I can’t change the weather in Canada so it’s not for me . That being said supposedly they’ve redesigned the air ride for the freezing issue but with the experience I had with it I won’t get it again .
Everybody knows that the Tundra is the most reliable full size truck on the market but some people want the flash and all the tech , to be honest if I ordered one I wouldn’t have got the 12” screen or the pano roof I was perfectly happy with the 8.4” screen I had in the previous Ram . To me the most important thing is the drivetrain reliability everything else is great but if it breaks I would just do without and not fix it unless it happens within the 5 year 100k warranty. lol

With regards to the reliability of the FCA products , I have the Rebel my wife has the Grand Caravan , my mom has a Chrysler Town and Country , my dad has a Grand Cherokee , my one sister has a Grand Caravan , my other sister has a Dodge Journey , my mother in law has a Grand Caravan , my one brother in-law has a Rebel , my other brother in-law had a Ram ( company truck ) and my daughter in-law has a Chrysler 200 and none of us has had an issue with the except the air ride on my last Rebel . So unless we just happen to be the luckiest people on the planet I’d say that the reliability isn’t as bad as everyone thinks . However I do believe that a Toyota would last longer in the long run over anything else . It’s funny but the only car I’ve ever had that spent more time in the shop than on the road was a Honda . I’ve had Fords , Chevys and Chrysler and they’ve all been reliable .
When I was younger I swore I’d never own a Chrysler product because of the bad reputation they had but when I needed a minivan the new Grand Caravans were cheaper than 4-5 year old others which is why I ended up with a Chrysler since that and it being so good we went back to them .
My dad used to always tell me that if you find a make you have good luck with just stay with them , that and a good dealer .

chrysler has stepped up their game mechanically. i'll give em that.
but some of the damn hemis get that lifter tick and man does it do some damage if you dont fix it quick. my buddies 5.7's cam was destroyed when his started ticking. oh well excuse to completely rebuild it, bore it, stroke it and now its a 7.0l monster.

and the ticks back again with OEM lifters and 15k miles.. sooo it comes apart again very soon

I’m sorry guys I didn’t join this forum to promote the Rams , I just really like trucks of all makes .
Back a few years ago my parents came into quite a bit of money and they were determined to buy their 3 kids new vehicles , at the time I was driving a 2000 Ford Focus , that’s the reason I ended up with the Ram because they dealt with the Chrysler dealership and I heard through my sister that they were going to surprise me with a new Journey ( I told them I didn’t need a new car ) but when I heard that I said I’d rather have a pick up which is why I found the cheapest one on the lot with hardly any options so I didn’t make them spend more , the Journey was actually more money than the Ram I picked .

To me, that's damn near everything. I don't hate Ram trucks by any stretch, but when you have SEVENTEEN trips to the dealership in as many months - 5 for the same issue - for anything from a broke transmission to a cracked exhaust manifold to crappy visors to a busted valve body....it leaves a REAL bad taste in one's mouth. *SOME* features are nice, but the vast majority of people, in my opinion, are fine with the main features - PS/PW/PL, a decent media system, and the like.

To me, the big 3 are focusing on features and HP. Toyota seems to be focusing more on what actually makes a truck a truck - capability and reliability.

I honestly believe that the “ Hemi Tick “ is due to the MDS , the first thing I do when I get into mine is turn it off so it runs on all 8 cylinders all the time .

If I had issues like that I wouldn’t have have stuck with Ram that’s for sure , ( I’m not a glutton for punishment ) I have heard of some people that have had issues with the transmission , mostly they were the early builds of the new 2019 . They are made by ZF but they are completely new also as some of the Hemis have the etorque which adds 130 ft/lbs of torque off the line so the transmissions had to be beefed up a bit and all the 3.6 L V6’s have the etorque which adds 90 ft/lbs of torque . In the 4th gens all the 8 speeds were the same but now they have 2 different transmissions , one for the Hemi and one for the V6.

I’ve heard mechanics around here that say the Rams and Chevys have the exhaust manifold bolts break on them more than any other makes , but that doesn’t stop them from running , it makes a ticking sound until it they warm up , I haven’t experienced that yet . But yeah I’ve seen videos on YouTube about the cams and lifters .

I was in the same boat as you back in November. Purchased a used Tundra platinum over a new Ram Laramie and never had any regrets. Autos are a waste of money for sure no matter how you slice it. I just sold my 2006 Lincoln Navigator with the worst engine ever 5.4L Triton and air suspension, timing chain, spark plugs all kinds of issues. I do all the work myself and to be honest got tired of working on the damn Navigator. So I opted for the Tundra just incase the Ram was going to turn out like the Navigator. Comfort was a big component for me as well 6'3 and 200lbs the Ram Laramie was super nice seats but now that I have a Platinum for several months it is just fine. No Regrets.

I’ve only heard of a few people that didn’t have issues with the triton engine
