    Hello,
I have a 2016 Tundra 1794 Edition. I recently started up my truck and was met with the attached warning. 'New software is not compatible with this system'. I did NOTHING to this radio. There have been no modifications whatsoever. Upon some initial troubleshooting, I noticed that the error no longer shows up when the SD card is removed. The system clock is no longer visible on the radio screen at all.
I took this to my dealer and they stated that I need to buy a brand new radio/head unit to the tune of $1200 to fix this. They claimed that there is a communication problem between the unit and the engine control unit. I am baffled. This appears to be a software issue, not a hardware issue.
Currently, I am able to use the unit with the SD card out - I use Waze and dont use the navigation so Its not a terrible loss, however, the missing clock is a bit of an issue. Sure, I can look at my phone for the time, but it was super convenient having it on the head unit.

Has anyone else run into this before? I am at a loss.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

By chance did you change phones or anything? I'm curious here..

Sounds like SD card or SD card reader might be a issue..

Let me add this in a new one try this disconnect the battery for 15 minutes touch postive and negative together to dead out the caps in the truck and reconnect see if that helps.

Are you talking about the map card? I have the non-JBL, so I'm not knowledgeable on whether the JBL unit has an actual external SD card reader, separate from the map card reader. Have you went into the settings and manually set the time? If the map card is bad, it could bork the GPS time capabilities.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^. Agreed!

I’m guessing you’re out of warranty. I’d never pay to fix it. You can get a new HU much better HU for less than that.

If you're leaning toward a replacement OEM head unit I would shop around on here or eBay for a used OEM unit. Lots of people upgrade the JBL Entune HU and they come up for sale pretty regularly.

I believe it. When I was buying my truck they wanted me to buy the extended technology warranty and told me a new radio costs around 2-3k :rofl:
