Hello all. New guy here from western New York.

I'm looking for a few opinions on purchasing a used 2015 SR5 crew max. It comes CPO with 69k miles. I haven't test drove yet but I will. It's located about 3 hours from my home. What are some of the questions you ask when buying used from the dealer. Just some second opinions would be great!!!

    Welcome from CO.

I would ask if the PO towed with it. Are the miles more highway or city? Was maintenance done at the dealer? Carfax?

Carfax is clean. Single owner and no accidents. From what I can tell the maintenance was all dealer performed. I'll inquire about the mileage and towing.

Honestly, I wouldn't trust a single thing a dealer says about a used car. I checked out a couple used cars at dealers (actual manufacturer dealers, not Vince's Uzed Carz down the street) and could pretty quickly tell they had been in accidents and/or had body work done, and both dealers claimed they had never been in accidents. When I pointed out what I saw they quickly played dumb and said they'd have their body/shop guys check it out.

I've found that dealers don't know crap about the used cars they're selling and will tell you whatever they think you want to hear. I'd just do your due diligence and know what to look for yourself rather than ask the dealer. Good luck!

Yup! I can spot paint work from a mile away. Either the color or orange peel or lack there of it is off.

Tell them it’s a deal if they throw in a ten-year 120 thousand mile warranty on top of it LOL

Clean Carfax and documented maintenance history would be my must haves. Being a CPO it will cost a bit more but should come with good extended warranty.
The high odometer reading indicates lots of highway driving which is good. The powertrain is probably in much better condition then a same year truck's that has 20k putting around in city traffic.

Check to see if you can afford to buy new. Toyota trucks hold their value so well you can generally buy new vs used for a few thousand more and APR is lower if financing.

I searched used/new for my tundra and my tacoma. In both cases it was about a $100/month difference to buy new vs 1-3 years old. Most people spend that much at mcyDs...

I purchased a 4Runner from a dealer who said the car had never been in an accident and it looked clean. Car never tracked right and took it to the dealer numerous times. Turns out his wife wrecked it in S Cal while on dealer plates and the dealer there fixed it but nothing showed anywhere. Hadn't been registered yet. It was a pretty major accident also.

I have a mechanic who services everything I have that is not under warranty go through a car and put it up on a lift. Costs a hundred or so, but worth the peace of mind. Cheap insurance.
