I think we might have discussed that in another thread, and I think you could buy them as long as you left them here when you went back north. Depending on the state too. Some states are difficult for residents, so aliens would be screwed.

Yeah, I think I remember us going over it once. I have the memory of a goldfish though, so naturally I've forget the particulars. I remember something about a hunting licence making it easier. As long as I have a secure way to store them I'd have no issue leaving the toys down south.

Gotta figure out the money thing in order to buy a place before we cross the firearm bridge though...

toque isn’t the ear flap hats... toque is what us south of the 49th usually refer to as a “beanie”

as a bald guy, toques save my skull from freezing about half the year. Never heard them called block heaters before.

anyone ever had Kokanee beer? Back before it was contract brewed by Labatt’s it was brewed in the small town of Creston along the Kootenay (Canadian spelling - in the US it’s Kootenai) River. My brother was actually born in Creston.

I see. Always just heard of them as knit caps or beanies. When I shave my head I have a couple that I will wear.

Yep, used to drink Kokanee all the time. The Kokanee Gold version is really good too.

We used to joke that if you looked at the picture on the box close enough, you could see sasquatch walking across the glacier.

Also drank a lot of Okanogan cherry cider...wish they still made it like they used to without using an apple base.

My go to was Dead Frog lager. I also like Granville Island pale ale. BC has some really good breweries.

I've been trying to mostly buy Alberta beer lately.

Philips used to be really good but now they only brew lousy stuff.

Importing guns can be a serious hassle. Not a big deal if you're heading south for good though. Nothing in Canada really that you can't buy in the US.

I'll keep an eye out for those two. Grain Brin seems to spark something in my brain (I have the same memory as you and Adam) but I'm sure I've never drunk any. They're a really good independent liquor store that focuses on craft beer right near where I live so I just walk in and look for something made in Alberta that I've never tried before. Slave Lake has a couple good breweries and I love Apex Predator in Edson.

Not true. You guys don't have the same SBR restrictions that we do. It's the one gun thing I've seen that you guys definitely have us beat on.

Oh right. Can't you guys get a stamp or something for SBR like you do with suppressors?

You can, but it's a long wait, expensive, and makes it so no one else can use the gun outside your presence. You also have to get one for each gun or suppressor. 90% sure you have to essentially ask permission to travel out of state with it as well.

Because I'm too lazy to look it up, what constitutes a SBR? I've used 8.5" - 12" barrelled shotguns and while they're handy the recoil doesn't make them really practical. 14" is kind of the sweet spot.

16 inch minimum barrel for a rifle. That doesn't include a muzzle device unless it is permanently attached/pinned. Shotguns are under a different set of rules too, I think. Smoothbore isn't a rifle and all that.

Go Form1. Only costs the tax stamp and the wait is only a few weeks.
You do have to notify via a form of taking an SBR out of state, but not for a suppressor.

as for moving to Chicago... that’s a whole different set of rules than a lot of the country. Even here in WA it’s not very friendly any more but way better than Chicago.

I don't really need an SBR. I've considered suppressors though. Would be very nice for out at the range. I had hoped the National Hearing Protection Act would get passed, but that seems pretty unlikely.

Shotgun would be SBS, and it’s 18” minimum. SBR is 16” and the whole designed and manufactured to be fired from the shoulder bit. Ugh...

I can live with that, stupid as it is. Get a stamp for one 14" barrelled AR, have the rest at 16". Suppressors are totally worth the expense and hassle. I'd have a few for sure.

I don't really need an SBR because the 5.56/223 and the 7.62/308 both suffer pretty solidly with every inch under 16. If you are going for something like a 7.62 or a 300BLK then it would make sense, as those two still perform well in short barrels. Purely personal preference, like 99.9% of all gun stuff.

Well, until I get south it's not really an issue for me. ARs are prohib here now and everything similar like the Tavor likely isn't far behind. :( Won't be long until it's bolt guns only, then single shot then slingshots then rocks then harsh words....oh wait. :frusty:

Yeah. Even better is having an SBR AR receiver because then you can mix and match (within some boundaries). I probably wouldn’t have more than one (which is what I have) because there’s actually less restriction on having a pistol if you have your CWP. I can keep a loaded pistol in the truck, but not a rifle. And using an NFA (National Firearms Act) registered SBR in a self defense situation would add a whole deeper layer of scrutiny...

and yes, 300BLK is really a sweet spot for an SBR. Shooting an AR platform SBR in 556 is unpleasant - too much gas in the face (and the suppressor will make it 100x worse). I can’t imagine 308 in a 10” barrel!

As for suppressors - couldn’t agree more. I almost never shoot without a can any more, unless the weapon can’t mount one. Built my 308 and 45 cal cans myself, but bought the 22LR one.

No suppressors here. Too dangerous for us. Don't you know that's what assassins use and you can't here a rifle shot in the next room?
