Yup. I posted about it at the same time you were but must have have hit submit seconds before you.

In true Canadian fashion....it's my fault, I'm sorry.

Ok, I need to ask for context. Does your wife drink her coffee black, as God intended? Does she drink it as a double-double or with a bunch more cream and sugar added? Also, are you talking Tim's coffee from the actual restaurant or the Tim's coffee grinds you make at home yourself?

Vancouver is spelled the way it is because it was a man's name.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Vancouver

I personally spell it "checks". "Cheque" is just more of that uppity Brit nonesense adding extra letters and creating unneeded work.

She got on that double double wagon and can't get herself off.

And both. We buy the grounds at the grocery store and she makes it at home in her drip coffee maker. She only gets to go to the "restaurant" if we're on a trip or something like that.

Ah, in that case as a bit of a coffee snob I can understand your wife liking Tim's. All that cream and sugar dilutes the true taste of the coffee. ;)

    None. Stock from the dealership.
Strange words, accents? My Dad was from New Jersey, My Mother was from Missouri, I was raised on the west coast, before it went crazy, with a little bit of Spanish thrown in. I was raised by my German Grandmother for a few years, I didn't know any of them had accents. I married a lady from Beiseker, Alberta. Canada has the best beer outside of Europe, U.S. beer sucks. I learned a lot about Canada, my stepson at the time said their money looked funny, oh well, minor detail. I am really fond of Canada. My Canadian wife died a long time ago and now I'm married to a Pennsylvanian, she speaks Pennsylvaniaese, I think that comes from the Pennsylvania Dutch part of the country, you know, the black buggies that go clop, clop, clop down the road! Now that you have heard my little story, using my Wives saying, 'have a pity party for me.' Accents, what accents?

At least in Canada and the US you can get craft beer in different styles. Outside of Belgium, most European beer is lagers, which suck.

Wow. Thank you guys for all the info.

Funny enough I have heard almost all these differences as acceptable and understood them here in Wyoming.

Pop when I was a kid, soda as I got older.

Restroom, bathroom, washroom, shitter, can; all good here.

Snow machine, snowmobile, and sled are all used here equally. Ski-doos are a jet ski brand, though.

I didn't know about the cheque thing.

What about a line? Do you guys call it a queue? Again, I've heard both here so I've never misunderstood, but my Mother has. Had no idea what queue was or how to say it.

Edit: @Cpl_Punishment Both donut and doughnut are used here, too.

Do you know what a toque is? We call them 'block heaters' in Alberta, lol

No, Sea-Doo is a jet ski. Ski-Doo is a snowmobile.

A warm (sometimes knitted) hat that covers your ears in winter is called a toque. Some Americans call this a toboggan, which is actually a wooden sled kids ride down hills in the winter.

Oooh. Never heard of a specific name for a hat with ear flaps. I that it was about and engine block heater.

A tobbogon is a sled. Who TF calls a hat a tobbogon?

Queue is from the French literally translated as tail but also used for a line. I suspect that the British use of the term originates from the French. Was never commonly used in the US until recent years - a popular PC fad.

I usually think of queue as being digital. Like an online game can be queued up for a match.

You’ve got one heck of a memory to remember ‘Hundred Mile, it’s not exactly memorable. ;) I was born there, grew up about an hour east (No town, but lots of good Toyota 4x4 country), but still remember how “Timmies” being built was the excitement of the town.

I spent about 3 hours in "House". Went to a RBC to exchange some US$ for CA$, then hit up Safeway for a certain cheese flavored snack and dog food, then on to Horton's for lunch, and got gas after that. Friendly folks at the station. Gave my dog some freebie dog biscuits. Headed north. Still can't remember what sandwich I ordered.....

I love the 100 Mile area. Highway 24, BC's Fishing Highway. Sheridan Lake, Irishman Lake and dozens of other high quality trout lakes along that stretch. Good hunting up that way too I hear, though I've never hunted it. Saw a ton of game while fishing there though. We'll see how it is in 25 - 30 years, but The Woman and I would love to retire there. That's assuming we don't manage to move to the US before then.

The way I understand bunnyhugs is that they are pullover sweaters - hoodies have zippers. I've always used hoodie for both, but the flatlanders have to throw out bunnyhug for some reason if there's no zipper. Never got to the why though

Summer drink? I get them year round. I've had a few look at me funny when it's -40 or I'm at a hockey game with an Iced Capp

Surprised not to see more funny Newfie sayings on here - my favourite is them asking 'Where ya to?' It doesn't shorten anything, they say 'to' instead of 'at'. And get 2 Newfies together and good luck understanding what they're saying. I can understand 2 Italians talking Italian better than I can understand 2 Newfies talking 'English'.

Oh for sure, much of the surrounding area is awesome, much better than the town itself IMHO, though the pine beetle changed a lot of the landscape. I miss being able to be on several great trout fishing lakes within 1/2 hour of home, and many more not much further.

If the current trend continues it may be an affordable area to retire to. If your grumpy old “new” neighboUr drives a silver ‘08 Tundra it might just be me. :)

That pine beetle is a sumbitch. Need a couple winters that get and stay insanely cold for a couple months.

I'll be sure to wave to my new neighbor! The clay pigeons start flying at 11AM Saturday mornings, BYOA (bring your own ammo), coffee is on the house.

There you go. I need to look up the laws on non-residents owning guns, but we've thought that if we can't make a permanent move happen we'll eventually buy property in the States. Hopefully I could buy my dream toys then.
