They are asking around $35,000 for the TRD Pro.

A 15 pro with low mikes for 35 seems fair. The secretiveness might cost ya here. There's a lot of knowledge here that could help if you gave the link out. Oh well. Good luck

Also is it certified pre owned? Warranty would be nice, new may be better for that purpose alone.

Keep us posted on what you decide to do. Also, truck prices vary a bit, west to east, and north to south. But that should be the same, whether you go Pro or limited. How many miles is "low", and do you love that inferno color? What's tempting you on a Limited?

If you can live without bedside stamps just get the TRD and mod it how you want! The peace of mind knowing previous owner didn’t rag it out is worth it IMO, especially if it was a lease.

The TRD Pro has 41,000 miles. Its average I think for a 2015. I love the inferno color on the TRD Pro.
When I said fully loaded I meant the the SR5 upgrade package and the Convenience Package on the SR5, not the limited trim level.

If I get a new one I’m going to leave it 100% stock. I like the way the inferno TRD Pro looks and I like how it’s lifted/leveled from the factory.

Will the resale value on the 2015-2017 TRD Pro‘s drop significantly when the new one comes out later this year?

I doubt it. It’s still a Toyota in the end. Resale and reliability is what it is known for.

Dude pull the trigger you will be stoked in the end. Then put a color match topper on it. And it will look like this.

I do worry when buying used vehicles from strangers and dealers. I bought a tundra that the guy used for towing and then 6 months after I bought it the transmission started acting up. Thats one of the reasons why I was asking about towing. I found another used Tundra I want to go look at. From looking at the hitch does it look like it wasn’t used very often for towing?

For the amount of money you're willing to spend just get a brand new one and avoid all this sh!t. Just because they never used the hitch doesn't mean they didn't drive the sh!t out of it before selling it. Who knows maybe they've been driving it for the last 10k miles with the oil barely registering on the dip stick.

Hmmn. I don't think I would eval whether a truck's been used to tow based on the hitch receiver. That discoloration looks like dirt that's settled into a depression in the floor of the receiver-? Or I guess it could be from a hitch sliding in and out, wearing the finish, and rust moving in... or it could be a slightly uneven bottom surface that lets water pool and rust as a result. Like @NWHmoob suggested, any fool can ruin a vehicle, with or without towing. When I buy used I like to meet the seller/ driver/ fool to make that assessment. But if I were to spend big money, I'd buy a certified pre-owned with a high-mileage warranty.

If you test drive a used vehicle, I'd suggest picking a route you know has steep hills (go from near stopped at the bottom to the top, pushing for speed all the way, pushing the truck to shift); then do a freeway (and I would really get on it, going up the ramp). Basically, when I test drive a used vehicle, I drive nicely while I put the seller at ease, then I drive it like it's stolen for a few miles to find any pre-existing problems.

Maybe @ColoradoTJ, who knows about a lot about everything including towing, could suggest other ways to inspect or test a vehicle to find pre-existing transmission problems.

I tow alot and the inside of my hitch is usually bare metal from my hitch rubbing on it. From the look of those chain hook up points it has towed for sure. The powder coat on the toyota hitch is really good mine has recently started showing wear on the chain hook points at 129 thousand miles.
The wear on the inside can be from a wobbly shank in the receiver. It might not of towed much just had a shank in there most of its life.

He could have had a hitch cover inserted that vibrated a lot too, causing rust. My tow chain hooks don't fit well into the receiver's hook up points, so I use D hooks - point is that my receiver looks like it has never towed around the chain hook points, but I tow all of the time. And my trailers are a single axle 6 X 12 utility trailer and a 6 X 10 single axle cargo trailer. Never a huge amount of weight. That is one of the reasons I have a truck...

But aren’t most of the tundras that have transmission issues ones that were used for towing?

This one is a 2014 with 40,000 miles and the carfax shows all the toyota recommended service has always been done. Do you think I can most likely get at least 200,000 miles out of it with no transmission issues? I drove my first Tundra from almost nothing to 250,000 miles and never had a transmission problem but I never towed with it.

I've never read or seen data that suggests "most of the Tundras hat have transmission issues ones that were used for towing". It may be out there, but I have not seen it and I would not always draw that conclusion.

My point is that it depends...I've towed large light and heavy travel trailers and smaller trailers...only issue I ever had was with brakes. I would not use the trailer receiver rust as an indicator...Is towing a small single axle utility trailer 2 X per month more damaging than 3 X per year heavy travel trailer?

I am usually more concerned about the maintenance of used vehicles than the condition of the receiver. And when I was looking around to get out from under my problematic 2014 Silverado that I purchased new, the resale was so high on used Tundras that I just bought a new one. Looking at this receiver picture, can you tell how often and what I tow?

Yes. Unless it already has transmission problems, any Tundra should go 250,000+.

Another interesting bit of hearsay...I've heard that "red" doesn't sell as well as other colors, so you might be able to get a really good deal on that red PRO...
My last truck "Ruby" was a dark burgundy red metallic and that is what I was really looking for. Couldn't find a dark red Platinum and did not want to wait a white, MGM or black. Anyway, I had 4 sales people tell me that they don't like to get red trucks in stock because they are hard to sell...at least in my area...somethin' more to chew on as we say in Texas...

And that "rust" in the receiver does look like dirt inside plus a little wear on the edge...it's in Jersey...don't they use salt up there on the roads in the winter? hmmm

With all the questions you have before even buying it, you will probably have even more if you get a used truck and actually start to use it. Just buy new and forget the rest.

I test drove a brand new base model 5.7 SR5 4x4 doublecab. The engine was vibrating pretty bad when stopped at traffic lights. The truck accelerated slowly and there was a noise coming from the glovebox area every time I accelerated. Did I drive a lemon? I rented a 2015 a couple years ago and it didn't have any of these issues.
