it wasn't that difficult for me, just put a wrench on it, then another one on that wrench and I was able to break it loose pretty easily

A right angle impact could fit at least on one end, if you have a deep and a normal socket + a couple different size extensions you can get it to the right length so you can maneuver it around lines and cables.

Pistol style wrench will not fit.

Put the box end 22mm's on each end with one rotated to hit a solid spot or tied with a rope. Slip another big box end of a different combo wrench around the open end of the one free movement 22mm. Basically chain 2 wrenches together if you will and give it all you can. I use wrenches linked all the time to multiply force and it works great 99.9% of the time.

Used a 1/2” ratchet with a 22 on the bolt side, and used an adjustable on the nut side when I broke mine loose.

You’ll have more clearance breaking it on the bolt side vs nut side since you’re dealing with quite a few hard lines…

I just replaced my front struts but now the 4 wheel won't work. Did I mess something up?

That's a bummer, sorry to hear. A simple shock change out shouldn't affect the axle/ 4WD system as long as those weren't damaged when you had your emergency breakdown.

When you say the 4WD isn't working, you mean that the truck is flashing like it's trying to go into 4WD, but it won't engage permanently? How often would you use 4WD before this situation happened? When the 4WD system isn't regularly exercised or you haven't used it in awhile, it may be tough to get into 4WD. When that happens, some people have been able to give the actuators on the front differential and transfer case a few taps to get them working again.

This also might be worth reading...
