I bought mine for 20k it’s a 2016 limited crew max with lots of bells and whistles I looked for the carfax to tell me it has good maintenance. Took me a good few months to find one I liked I went to see a couple and had to walk away those were all from private owners the one I actually bought was from a used car dealer

looks nice; but it’s well over your original stated budget and apparently was used as a plow truck…..

This one does break the budget, but I like the low miles. Both my previous trucks were " plow trucks ", for my own personal use and I can use the plow. Plow looks like light use, which I will question.

I’d be real weary of a rattle can job on this. Plus he’s in Mass…
Ball and hitch are crusty, bed has rust under the right side of the cover, yet his hitch receiver is somehow black, yet crusty on the sides. Frame in tire pic is black but crusty. Honestly, I’d stay away especially since it’s 10k over your budget
Fly to Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, missouri, California for $400 and drive a 20k truck home that’s been cared for

Great points, thanks. I am going to speak with this seller today prior to trekking out to see it . I will ask about the rust/rattle concerns.

I love the idea of buying elsewhere, it's just finding the right one and the time to do so. Not apposed to having an independent inspection and shipping, which I have done with 3 classic cars. However, it is a crap shoot with inspectors. Not because they are necessarily bad, but because peoples definitions differ.

Like I said. If the seller is not willing to answer every single question and picture request then the truck is not worth the time. Especially in todays market with the prices. Unless you have no vehicle, be patient and find the right one. You’re not going to get a rust free truck anywhere north of North Carolina for that price and options you want. Even Maryland trucks I looked at were too far gone. Not falling apart but too much crust to want to deal with

Timing belt on a 4.6 vs chain on a 5.7. Gas mileage difference is negligible. I’d get a 5.7 if I could but that’s just me.

4.6 and 5.7 are both chains. 4.7 is the belt

    You have 3 options. 4.7, 4.6, 5.7
Read about the cam tower seals with the 4.6 and 5.7 and inspect thoroughly on all trucks you’re looking at. It’s an issue and a non issue. And you’re obviously looking at 2nd gens so the SAIS is a problem as well with certain years.
If you NEED and not want the high HP and TQ then 5.7 is the answer.
    4.6 puts out good power.
the 4.7 with the 2UZ is a very well established engine and essentially bulletproof. The 4.6 and 5.7 are very reliable as well.
I pretty much use mine as a “truck” for loading it up with hardwood firewood for transport and an aluminum boat with a 20hp motor. Im fine with the 4.7.
don’t get hung up on the displacement unless you absolutely need the numbers.
Find a truck that hits every check box for you and be happy (verifiable service records, clean frame, and whatever else you desire for options).

4.6 and 5.7 are the same motor. One has larger displacement by changing bore and/or stroke. Externally almost identical. Like Chevy 305 and 350 engines.
