Programming Ignition key

On older Toyotas you could program (sync) a new ignition key by a procedure. (insert master key (5 times)...open and close door (6 times) within 30 sec.) If there is a procedure like this for my 2018, they are keeping it secret. Is it true the only way to sync a chipped key is using Techstream2 hookup?

Thanks for the info. Instead of paying dealer $100, im going to use the unsynced key in magnet box just to open door. then keep spare ignition key inside truck. They will never get my $100!!!

 

Just spend $30 or $60 depending on which cable you want (whether you want to capture live data or not) and download Techstream from here for free. Then you can also run diagnostics on your truck and change parameters in the trucks computer...such as turning off that pesky seat belt chime...if it bugs you.
