Production date after which engine issues are purportedly fixed?

I’m looking at a used 24 Tundra either gas or hybrid. Is there a production date that I should be past where Toyo fixed the engine issues?

    thanks.

Not sure anyone except Toyota knows this for certain.

Supposedly sometime in February 2023 but the above is the most accurate answer.

I think there have a been some failures past Feb 2023 but those seem to be much less and more inline with random failures as expected with mass produced things.

You are probably going to be okay and your extended warranty will keep you protected for the duration of the term.

Just make sure to keep up with your maintenance and records so they can't deny you later on.

And that there is the scary part because they issued the recall for specific date range. If they don't know then how can they set a valid date range?

    Hmmmmm

I watched his video. It was the #1 cam bearing and just another part if I recall. And those changes were April of this year also.

This is getting a little nerve racking. I am 3 weeks into a 22 Limited and was originally looking to go vintage V8 model, until I took this for a test drive at the dealership. I fell in love with it. I have always had faith in Toyota trucks, owned several and worked on many back in the day. They have a solid product. I'm really shocked they haven't figured this out yet.

#1 MAIN bearing, not cam bearing.

#1 and #4 main bearings changed.

I knew main, and typed cam. I actually did it right here again and just corrected it. Getting old sucks. The mind just warps things. I'm glad to be old and have an excuse, now! LoL

mrlittlejohn. Feel for you guy. Our family has had Toyota's over the past 30 yrs. and with exceptions to a few bumps along the way they all have been solid vehicles. Kind of like a old crescent wrench. May have not been the latest and greatest but they just worked. We moved to the tundra because of the kids. They just won't stop growing, lol. The new Tacoma's back seat was a "BIG" miss on Toyota's part. Like you we took the tundra for a spin and like it. Kids had plenty of room in the Crewmax. The Truck drives really nice. We took it on a long trip and it was great. To say my heart sunk when all this engine stuff hit the fan would be a understatement. I tend to keep my vehicles 10-12 yrs. and at my age now was thinking this may be the last one. On Toyota's part they seem to be addressing the problem. Of course that doesn't help all of us including the hybrids that are not included in the current recall. To be fair. Other than the brake squeal "waiting for parts" I have had no problems with the truck and currently have about 11,000 on it. But driving around with the constant thought of " is this the day I going to have my colonoscopy" is not fun.

I'm going to look at a 24 Limited Hybrid w/a March 24 build date....reading about all this makes me nervous.

I know it's not much consolation but at least you have the knowledge upfront to make an informed decision. Unlike many others that got hit blindsided.

I wouldn't worry about it. Horror stories always get heavily publicized. What's the percentage of failures?

I have a 12/23 build- and its good to know that hopefully things are fixed. I bought my Tundra fully aware of the stuff hitting the fan. Toyota always seems to do right by their customers- and in this case they proved it again.

I would rather have my engine nuke and be replaced than trying to battle it out with GM/ Ford and their runarounds and avoiding fixing a very obvious wrong. Not to mention this seems to be the only real issue with the trucks. Little things here and there that can get tweaked or quick parts swap but on the whole i bought with confidence in Toyota doing right.

I would not be surprised if the recall is expanded to all 23's and maybe 24's.

Same thing happened with 2nd Gen Tacoma frame replacements - the recall originally only included certain states and model years but then more states and model years were added.

True, only because they can get off the road with electric power, so it's not a safety issue. I'm sure Toyota will replace the engine in a hybrid if it fails.

    False.

As reported by a multitude of Hybrid owners, they were unable to move the truck after an engine failure. There is no "motive power" available once the engine seizes.

Is that when they try to start it back up, or when there just is no gas engine power"

Slight differences between non-hybrid and Hybrid, but nothing earth shattering.
