I went out to start my tundra this morning and when i turned the key it started to turn over but never started...i waited for 2-3 minutes then tried again and after a few seconds the truck started...i drove a few miles and shut off the truck and tried to start it again and it did the same thing, it would just turn over...if i keep trying it eventually starts but when it does it smells strongly of gasoline...anyone else having these problems??? Any suggestions to help me figure this out???

    More details may help.
Does it crank reluctantly or vigorously?

Change anything in the truck recently? The sounds like a problem an old truck should have.

I'm thinking you're not getting consistent juice to your spark plugs.
For every internal combustion engine 3 things are required: oxygen, fuel and a spark. Being a newer truck, I have no doubt it's pulling air in and your smelling fuel tells me you're probably getting gas.
Get it to the dealer, your under warranty for sure right?

Take it to dealer and make them figure it out for sure, too new to have a problem like that. Has it ever ran out of gas?

Could be a few things. Could also be a crap battery with this cold weather..not enough cranking amps.

    Flux capacitor!
I would take it back to the dealer ASAP. You want them to diagnose it and hopefully fix it. Hopefully the dealer can give you a loaner truck while they inspect your truck. If they can't fix it then I would ask for a new replacement truck if it's still under the requirements for the lemon law. How many miles on the truck? Are you in sub freezing temps right now?

The battery was gonna be my next guess... and sadly my last. As that's about the extent of my troubleshooting abilities on my new tundra. Good luck, hopefully is something cheap and easy to fix!

@Sean266 , op says it cranks vigorously so that should rule out the battery.
@Wingnutz, diognostics on these trucks complex ignition systems require equipment that the dealer has readily at hand. As said above, waste no time going to the dealer.

Not saying your gas is affected for sure but I would read this article about gas in sub freezing temps. First and foremost take it to the dealer before anything. You want them to be the ones to create a log on it since it's under warranty.

    Still rolling stock baby....
What was the temp outside? I have seen cold fuel do funny stuff to fuel injection systems sometimes. Mine started up this morning, no problems, temp was 9 degrees. There was a sound like the air injection valves trying to move ever so slowly but it only lasted a few seconds then the truck ran fine.

I would say take it to the dealer as well. If warranty can cover it dealer is your best bet.

If I had to guess I'd say it has to be something electrical. If the ECU thinks the engine is running, it will continue to spray fuel which could be the cause of the raw gas smell. It _should_ detect the absence of tach, and stop cranking and spraying.

Maybe somethin' came in outa the cold, entered the air cleaner housing through the fenderwell and took up residence in the air cleaner housing. Built him/herself a nice little nest. It's happened to me, but it was a stash of acorns instead of a nest.
