For this to have/had any hope there would have to have been successful precedent in the big sports stadium beer price gouging category.

Not so. They protect consumers from people cornering a market on necessary goods and charging more than the manufacturers of those good.

Basically, it prevents people with Bezos/Gates levels of money from being able to buy up all of a necessary good, doubling the price, and selling it for profit.

No the manufacturer has nothing to do with dealer pricing.

That being said they could issue a rule or notice to dealers not to mark any cars up over msrp but that would reduced sales believe it or not because they wouldn’t be able to cover negative equity on trades etc.

That defies logic. If the cost to restock whatever widget you are selling goes up, you raise the price of your inventory to cover the cost to replace the stock of widgets you are currently selling. You also raise prices to slow down individuals buying more widgets than they need because they hoard, or because they are flippers. Retailers can also limit the number of widgets a person can buy, this is meant to make the on-hand inventory last longer so you can service more customers. If the retailer sells out of widgets - that's it. If the retailer did not raise his price early, he may not have enough money to cover replacement cost - effectively putting him out of the widget business.

    It's simple logic.

Quick example City A sells Toilet Paper for $2 per roll on average because that is the going rate among all stores for competition. Super rick person gets the idea to buy and flip, purchases mass quantities of stock from all retailers in City A, and decided to sell for $5 per roll. Continues to buy as items are restocked, and increases the gouge if retail prices go up. Unimpeded the price of TP skyrockets and people start using other things to clean up. Drains clog, sanitation systems break down, and the streets are flooded with excrement.

Capitalism is different from price gouging or allocations.

    For example;
For years, Sheetrock companies would allocate inventories and warehouse them.
They would then begin the process of telling everyone that there was a shortage.
Once they let everyone know there was a shortage, they would then slowly begin to raise prices, slowly releasing materials to the markets.
All while having millions of board foot sitting in storage.
This was done in the ‘90s and early 2000s until courts intervened.

With that being said, an independent dealer asking what he wants for a high demand vehicle is perfectly legal and done quite often.

If every dealer in the nation had a secret agreement to hide inventory so they can increase sales prices, we would have an argument.

    Not so in this situation.

I think the Ammo deal is a perfect example.
Is there a high demand causing price increases? Yes.
Is there a shortage of ammo that justifies a 300% increase in cost? No.
    The manufacturers have plenty.
This is why they release emails every week stating they have tons of 9mm ready to ship for only .70 each.
Their raw materials and manufacturing cost has only increased by about 3-6%.

Just because it’s a fair market practice doesn’t mean it’s not being taken advantage of.

With ammo, it's just that demand is through the roof from every newbie gun owner that has come into existence over the last year, and that is a lot.
It is just supply and demand in action. It will come back down. Unless you NEED the ammo right now, do not pay the current prices. Build up some inventory once prices return to normal.
Reloading doesn't save you either since components are just as high... it just lets you stock up easier and with more flexibility when prices are normal.

With cars I know they are having supply issues, but a market adjustment on a "special" vehicle is hardly limited to now, as mentioned. Those paying 100-130k right now for a C8 Corvette are the ones with enough money to not care about the 30-40k+ depreciation hit they will take if they hold it for a couple years.

Raw material prices are increasing exponentially, so it may also be a factor. It costs them a lot more to build a truck than it did a year ago. For example, in my business PVC costs four times what it did in April of 2020. Copper is almost double.
I don’t know how this gets passed on to dealerships, but it’s probably a big factor. They may be adjusting prices upwards to account for these increases? They already tended to price Pros above MSRP, so now they have even more reason to.

Have fake news media spread the propaganda that citizens will no longer be able to buy a certain item, and watch the feeding frenzy begin.

People wiped their asses for millennia with something other than TP.
Modern commercially available toilet paper didn’t originate until 1857.

You’ve clearly never been miles deep in the woods with nothing but nature to wipe.

Actually, a bidet or washable clothes are the way to go when in need.

    No. No bidet the woods.
And clearly not what I was inferring.

If you can’t figure out how to wipe your ass in the woods, then maybe the woods aren’t for you.

And if toilet paper is the only thing you’ve ever wiped your ass with, then you’re not really as adventurous as you thought.
