I agree with your wife 100%. Just reading about this makes my skin crawl. If my truck shut itself off whenever it wanted to, it would be like cutting off the top of my skull and dumping a shovel full of fire ants onto my exposed brain.

How and why anyone would tolerate this madness, I will never even try to understand.

    40 years??

Been with mine less than 10 and I gave up tryin to understand her

On the real, she's gotta push button start and can't stand it but I'm the old fashioned key ignition and it still doesn't bother me. The only reason I want to step up to an aftermarket is the distance I am away from the truck when I want to remote start it.

Just picked up a 2023 1794 Edition and it too turns off when opening the door after a remote start (from the app). I hope there is a setting to disable this feature.

Is there a PDF version of the Owner's Manual so that I can easily search for key words? I'll never find what I need in a 1,000,000 page book.

There are several posts about this. It is not something you are turning off in a setting. It has to do with the codes from the keyfob and is an anti-theft measure. Toyota discussed changing it in select 2023 models. If yours is on there then it shouldn’t turn off. If you don’t have it, you won’t get it without an after market remote start install. Unless, someone figures out a jack or Toyota supports it with a re-flash. The second is highly unlikely.

Any updates on this? It definitely seems SUCH a fail by Toyota. I'm really enjoying my 2022 tundra thus far, but the F150 remote start scores 10/10 and toyotas 1/10. The Ford is just two pushes. Lock, remote start. Works from 300' easy too. The tundras 1. only works from about 100' (tops) 2. requires lock-lock and then HOLD on the remote and then turns off when you open the door. Ridiculous. Like other users say. If theft is the fear, make it not drive off without fob in the truck.

Horrific? Absolutely disgusting? LOL I find it to be a minor annoyance, but YMMV.

Anyone tried just disabling the door switch?

My coworker has a Ford Escape and rubs it in my face that her vehicle starts automatically ten minutes before she gets off work so it is always cooled or heated.

A Ford Escape LOL? That’s about the last car on earth I’d brag about.

Agreed, but it's sad that it is superior to my Tundra in terms of electronic comforts and goodies at half the cost. Toyota has always lagged behind the competition in terms of technological features. The tiny screen in my 5th gen 4Runner was embarrassing.
