Only if it was a ‘21 built between Aug-Oct as that is when the malfunctioning machine was on the production line….

99% of this thread is :spam:

The letter isn't confusing. It's very clear if you read the red box that tells you what steps to take. It clearly states the time frame after which you could be affecting IF you had rack work done. If you didn't and your truck wasn't in the original recall for 2021s made in the same window, then you don't do anything.

I think they are under different #s as there are Special Service Campaign #s and Recall #s and TTB #s Toyota uses for these types of things. I got the letter even though mine has already been cleared by the dealer and no longer showing on my app. I’d say if you didn’t buy a truck between Aug-Oct ‘21 and you didn’t have your power steering rack replaced during that time (due to accident) then you should be fine but since you rec’d the letter you are able to take it in without any cost to see if there is any reason for concern. Toyota sent notices to way too many owners to cover themselves…

I just got this recall and I have a 2015. Are they expanding the recall to other years?

No. Read the letter. It only affects you if you've had repairs to your steering rack since August of 2021. Big red box on the first page of the letter.

I did not read all 17 pages of this thread, but I think the original post is about a different recall than the one sent out in Feb 2022.

The recall I received today states 151 vehicles are effected if you were in for service for a power steering rack replacement after August 5th 2021. NHTSA 21E-103. Based on the verbiage, it does not to apply to me, but I did receive the notice.

So i compared some of the failed pie pics in this thread and they are in the same pie piece location. I dont see any letters so im just going by failed dimple placement. Theres 8 pie pieces, my dimple is in the pie right next to the piece in the failed pics . Im assuming theres a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h locations so my dimple is in the a or c location. Heres a pic. Thanks

Sorry forgot to mention build date 8/21. However as seen in the pic, the dimple is in a different location. Theres 8 locations the dimple can be set a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, and the b location is fail. Im comparing to two other peoples pics of fail racks dimple locations. If that makes sense

Maybe but not for us to decide who asks questions and is confused by the recall - we are here to assist if we can…

I got the notice in the mail for my 2011. Document says I need to take it to a Toyota dealership to have it checked to see if the part needs to be replaced.

Sorry i guess i wrote alot of info that wasnt necessary.

Basically just need to know- the pie chart on the rack, are the 8 pieces of the pie - a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h? Or half of the pie is A other half B?

Witht his information there is no need to take to dealer, I have a degree in automotive technology, I am an ASE certified toyota tech with 6 yrs exp. However I am currently not working for a toyota car dealer (forklift). I am approved to do most of my warranty work myself and document it, but I am unable to acquire this info.

With the proper information some of us can diagnose the rack to be pass or fail. Some folks know how dealer techs work and dont want them anywhere near our trucks.

Agreed. Only applies if your rack was replaced on or after that date. My letter came yesterday. Mine is a 2020 so I'm good to go.

Never apologize for asking questions here, that's what this forum is all about. There's always a few assholes here who will try to cause a problem, when no problems actually exist.

My point is to not bash people here when you have no reason to. People here just asking questions is what a forum is all about. If you don't like it, piss off and move on to another subject on the forum that makes your miserable life happier.

Never apologize for asking questions and don’t worry about the very few on here that comment negatively - keep up on the forums and offer assistance when you can (I know I’ve learned a lot here because of folks doing just that!)

I found a site you can check out that doesn’t tolerate bullshit like people checking with other enthusiasts to verify recalls.

    You’ll love it.

Yes and that’s exactly what we are doing… Discussing the various power steering recalls and any questions that may arise due to said recall(s). Offering up your personal experiences has often proved helpful in and on this forum and I for one hope people continue to do just that!

I was just notified by my Toyota dealer that my 2021 SR5 TRD was finally ready for me to take delivery of. I ordered & put money down on the truck late October 2021. The truck hit the rail receiving yard the 2nd week of November and was placed on the NHTSA imposed “stop sale” before the dealer could take possession. What really takes the cake is that my truck was NOT one of the one in four affected vehicles that needed to have the rack replaced. I’m happy they did not have to mess with my truck, but not thrilled that I had to wait over 5 months to find that out. Hopefully the truck won’t be adversely affected from sitting, without being moved or attended to throughout a winter in Minnesota. Also hoping that it has not become a mouse haven. We will see....

Gonna be worth the wait Jim!! Glad they didn’t have to replace the rack as that would have taken them even longer to get you the vehicle…

Just got a steering recall on my 19. Something about 151 or so bad parts and mine needed to be checked? Great, so they can’t associate a supplier part by vin? Have to check a bunch of vehicles to see? Not confidence building at all.

Did you have the rack changed in the last six months? If not you are good to go.

The recall is only for racks made August 2021 or later.
