Are they keeping it and giving you a loaner?

Thought I heard the new policy was to send you home on foot with a sugar cookie for good luck.

If you tell them you don’t feel safe, they’ll give you a loaner.

They sent me on my way in the truck. I was too slow/dumb to ask about a loaner.

Update: Parts showed up last week but the dealership didn’t have a loaner until this Wednesday. I took it in first thing Wednesday and it was ready Thursday morning. Steering feel is about the same. The receipts say they swapped the front diff fluid, so I don’t need to do that at 10k…it had 5k when they did the work.

Dumb question - I thought this only applied to 2021's? I just got a notice in the mail for my truck. *scratching head*

Have had your steering rack replaced with a new Toyota rack recently?

Nope. Bought my '20 in March of 2020. Haven't had a darn thing done to my steering rack. (Except using it as I drive. LOL)

You replace your diff fluid at 10k? Why?

Same here, I got a notice also. Ill just bring it to them or call and see what they say.
When I look at my toyota owner app, it doesn’t have a recall listed.

Same. I'll make an appointment; honestly I've had zero issues in 2 years so I doubt mine is affected, but who knows.

I don’t think mine is affected also, alignment is good , the truck turns where I want to go. Better safe than sorry. I made an appointment nothing available until the end of March and the Service Dept are closed on Weekends.

Ok, so an update for everyone, I spent about an hour on the phone with Toyota this morning because I got a letter in the mail about the power steering issue.

On the app, it does not show anything about the "recall" for my truck. I say "recall" because Toyota said its not a full blown recall yet since its a new issue, they have it as a customer servicing project or something.
The lady said she wasnt sure why I got the notice, since my truck was made 11/2020. She said the information they showed was for 2007-2021 trucks, to cover any trucks that may have come in for replacements parts. The component manufacturer issue was for components procured by Toyota from July 2021 to October 2021. Obviously my truck was built before this was an issue so they said to disregard the letter, but of course, if something does happen to the truck, it would be covered as an extended coverage for the steering rack.

Just thought this information would help someone out and save them an hour talking to Toyota.

^ Same. Local service department said the same - "Unsure why they're sending them out to everyone, as they just cover 2020 as of now; but here we are." LOL

I am thinking they did this out of an abundance of caution. The scenario I am thinking of is that if you had an unrelated (or related and not known about at the time) issue, and they replaced your power steering with a defective unit from the shelf that was made in that July to October range.

Got the notice today for my 2013. Included the VIN and everything. Letter specifically said it only applied if you had a repair (mechanical or collision) done requiring steering gear replacement after 5 Aug 2021. Otherwise, no action is required.

My '21 was built in Sept 2020 and is not included in the recall. I did get the notice in the mail today though. Since I have not had my steering rack replaced on or after Aug 5, 2021, I don't need to do anything.

This is the overly cautious Toyota we know and love...sending letters to every 2nd gen Tundra and Sequoia owner who might've had their rack replaced in the narrow time frame when one machine was making defective parts.

I think there may be two separate “recall” issues with the power steering racks

Will they still do the repair on my steering rack if my truck is lifted?

They have to cover warranty issues, unless they can reasonably show that your leak/damage was caused by your modifications. I would guess that the burden would be even more onerous for a recall.

Agreed with the post above. If your rack is has the dimple in the B pie piece, it needs to be replaced under the recall. However, they may charge you if your lift adds time or costs to the repairs. For example, 3rd brake light fails (not the bulb) and Toyota says they will cover it under warranty, but you have a cap on it. Toyota may charge you to remove and reinstall the cap so they can access the 3rd brake light.

First thing to do is check here, if it says the recall applies then take it in. If it doesn't, unless you had a steering repair since delivery then you don't need to worry about it. The notice from Toyota was poorly written IMO, causing a lot of unnecessary panic.
