My dealership was pretty awesome. Scheduled me an inspection last week Wed, found out I needed to get the steering rack replaced. They called me Monday and set me up for Wed. I now have a new steering rack. Pretty painless.

Hopefully you didn’t buy it from these idiots because if you’re a preferred customer and this is the treatment then that is wrong in so many ways…

Did they give you a loaner? It’d be nice to have an ETA, but do you want them calling you everyday saying they don’t have the part yet? I’d get a loaner and want to be left alone until I know they have the part or at least when it’ll be in.

Took my built-in-August 2021 in today for recall inspection. Got the call a couple hours later that everything was good, no repair/replacement needed. I was glad to hear that, since the guy at the service desk this morning had no idea whether they had any racks in stock for these repairs. Last thing I need is to be without my truck for anything longer than a few hours; my super commuter Yaris is in another shop getting new everything (struts brakes belts headlights fluids you name it).

Didn't get the short straw this time...dropped it off at 7...appointment at 930. Got the all clear call at 830 and said no repairs required. Good luck to everyone else out there. No complaints with my dealer...they have always been good to deal with and do what they say. More like a family atmosphere than otherwise. As an aside...they have had one 2022 Tundra delivered so far so glad I'm not on that list...this one moved much quicker.

    Mine needs replacement.
The dealer said they would install my TRD front sway bar and TRD skid plate for no cost since they would have everything apart anyway.
Parts should be here by Wednesday at latest and ready for pick up by the end of the week. Giving me a loaner from Enterprise. Still worried about leaving the truck at the dealer for a week though.

Sorry about your bad rack...as long as they install your sway bar and skid plate @ no cost that's good...if you can get CAT guards installed too....even better.

The loaner is a 2021 Tacoma.

My October 7th (last day of production) built 21' PRO is still processing thru the Chicago railyard from the recall hold, hopefully it passes the inspection already been waiting since June when I placed the order.

Wow I need to check this. Any info on build dates with this issue? Edit oops looks like late 2021 builds. Maybe my June build escapes unscathed

Ordered our pro toward the end of August...picked it up around the 10th of October.
Didn't really order it per se but picked it from the dealerships "menu".

My app says no active recalls. Is the app known to be up to date?

June builds were good. Anything between late July '21 and mid October '21 may have a bad rack.

June build and no active recall I’d say you’re pretty solid

Only if you had an OEM rack replaced recently.

Power steering racks that were produced from Aug-Oct at the San Antonio plant were affected due to one defective machine that was used out of four possible power steering rack machines. But please take yours to get it checked out just to make sure…

Since the same rack fits 07-21 tundras, they put those years in for anyone who might have had one replaced with a bad rack. There is a chance that an 07 had theirs replaced with one of the bad racks recently.

If yours wasn’t built in that timeframe or had yours replaced, you should be good. My 18 was built in Jan 18, so even though mine is 07-21, it doesn’t affect me as I know my rack wasn’t manufactured in Aug-Oct 21.

That’s for vehicles that had their racks replaced with parts from inventory that may have been manufactured during the affected timeframe. There are only about 150 of those involved.

Well I got my PRO back from the dealer Friday. New steering gear installed

Truck feels tighter/more responsive to steering input. The dealerships mechanics do good work the service writers just have terrible communication skills.

Glad to hear your steering is better than before.

I'd felt that my steering wasn't very precise or responsive before the recall, got mine back on Friday with a brand new steering rack and unfortunately it feels the same as the old one. Guess it's just the way the truck is.
