I need to get some running boards for the family and thinking of sticking with oem factory for simplicity and fit finish. It seems there are various oem factory options- tube, predator, flat platform- I might be missing others. Think I’m leaning towards the flat platform style since it provides maximum step area, discrete, and it blends in better with the truck’s lines. Can you post yours up? TY!

The OEM stuff is top shelf. I have like both sets of Toyota that I have had. In both cases they stuck out the same amount and were the same distance down from the sill.
I can take more pictures if you would like.

I have these currently. I believe that they were simply called "running boards". I can get the part number if you would like. I like them a lot because they hide well. They are aluminum and the top is all rubber. I don't like them because the rubber does start to wear where they are used a lot. Not bad but after three years you can see it:
    IMG_7934.jpg

I have had these in the past. Mine were in stainless finish but they are also available in black. I liked these a lot as well but they were big and hung down a long way. :

I'll second the quality and longevity of some of the OE products; the ones posted above on the blue truck w/that are satin and have large black steps are the ones on my '08. So, they've got 16 years and over 285k miles on them; still in great shape; have a super wide step w/good positive friction for wet, snow and icy conditions; and they've held up way better than the ones on my '21 (which appear to be the same ones you have currently).

I wonder if a lot of us didn't end up w/some kind of dealer installed steps that are not OE quality.

Think the running boards on your lunar rock is the oem version I’m leaning towards because it’s the most discrete and it seems very functional with a wide step area. Basically anywhere is a step. Would you mind posting some close ups and also a few shots of how it attaches to the truck? TY!

Don't think I’m a fan of the tubular style because it sticks out to the eye. I want something discrete and not as noticeable.

Is this style an option on my 2021? Believe these are oem cast aluminum but not certain it is available to Tundras. I rented a 4Runner recently and it had these on it which were very functional.

Here are three photos. One shows the wear after three years. One shows the mounting brackets. One shows the bolts used (come with the steps). It uses threaded holes already in the cab. Sorry, the truck is a little dirty.IMG_8081.jpg IMG_8082.jpg IMG_8083.jpg

I love the functionality of mine but hate the look.

I'm not a big fan of chrome to begin with but I also don't like how low they hang. It ain't a rock crawler but I do a bit of desert exploring, mild off roading, etc. and these just seem really vulnerable to catching the odd rock.

At some point I'll likely swap out for something tucked up a little higher. Definitely like having something though since I'm old and short. (and ageing and shrinking sadly) :(

I like the "Wheel to wheel" versions that have a third step in front of the rear wheel since I step on the back end of mine frequently to fasten/unfasten the surf racks.

@mverkaik, what is the running board made of? How’s the weight?

The running board is aluminum with rubber over the top. The brackets that mount to the truck are steel. They are not very heavy. Maybe 10 pounds per side. I put them on all by myself and I was able to hold them in place with one hand while starting the fasteners with the other.

Yep, these are available for the Tundra. Personally, I regret not going with these

I have the predator tube steps. They're aluminum, so they won't rust in these Midwest winters and they're very light, but very stout. I was nervous about them being slippery in winter, but that wasn't an issue last winter. They function well and look pretty good. I just prefer the cast aluminum boards

IMG_3026.jpg These came with the truck. I tell my wife they look like pontoons on a pontoon boat. I don’t like them. I’ve been looking at other running boards and sliders. But can’t make my mind up. :notsure:

Now the next question is where can I get it for the best deal. So far my search lands me at BAM wholesale parts. Shipping seems reasonable too. Wonder if anyone offers free shipping?

Is it true there is no gap between the body and classic running board? I need something snug up to the body. I’d like to cover up the silver Talon cat shield bracket on my frame. Do you think these running boards have any door ding protection?

I am dabbling at the thought of Go Rhino RB10 or RB20 but it sounds like those have some decent gap which I’m trying to avoid.

They fill the gap very nicely. They have a piece of rubber that contacts the bottom of the rocker.
    IMG_7936.jpg
I did not want a step that stuck out too far. There are probably better ones out there for door ding protection.
My door ding protection is where I park :) Unfortunately that is not as effective as I would like. Notice the king of all door dings under my passenger door handle. I don't know how you can make one that big. It runs from the handle all the way down to the style line toward the bottom of the door.

I have a 21 Platinum and I just called Toyota to find out the part number for you and according to my VIN he said I had the following running boards Classic Black PT925-34183

They are the exact same ones as pictured here https://www.tundras.com/threads/running-boards-factory-toyota.32145/#post-796171
However, in this post they are mentioned as a KG option. The parts guy I talked to didn't say anything about a KG option, but thought I should mention it in case it was important.

Did a little more digging see these posts https://www.tundras.com/threads/pics-of-your-running-boards.27387/page-8#post-2038396

I’ve never been a fan of running boards or steps. I’m considering on taking mine off soon. But for now the kids enjoy using them.

These came new on my truck. I left them there because they fit in with the theme I was going with. Only truck I ever had with boards on it. My new tundra has electric boards. IMG_2407.jpg

I have had both OEM running boards on my 2021 1794 toyota tundra. I like the all black flat running because they tuck under and hide the support brackets. I do have the other OEM running boards ready for a new home
