Uhhhhh, I agree with you, and almost the entire left side is broken off. Not the entire side. In 2013 I shot a huge bodied buck a few hundred yards from this same remote location whose antlers were smashed down to grotesque stubs. The bases were enormous and the antlers must have been originally enormous. The deer density here is about 5 deer per square mile. So when bucks do meet, they fight fiercely. Most of the bucks shot around there show all kinds of battle scars on their faces, necks, and ears, and have broken tines. Their bodies are big, usually in the 185-250 lbs range.

First deer hunt I’ve ever been on and got this 7 point buck in East TN during a public muzzleloader hunt. It was a great experience and now I know why deer hunting is so addictive.

Congrats to all that got a harvest this year. Unfortunately I came up empty handed on my deer hunt that just wrapped up today. I still got an archery elk tag for next month. Woo hoo

You’re supposed to suffer in cold and sleeplessness for many days/years before getting your first buck. Supposedly. :) Congrats for real though.

First time out and harvest an animal. Nicely done sir!

I’m thinking the divide on my next comment is the Mississippi River. Out west hunters only count one side of the antlers and it seems out east the hunters count them all.

    Yep we count ‘em all.

Was he blind in his right eye? Looks like he may have gotten it poked out in a fight.
Congrats to your son. That’s a long shot (for the east anyway). He’s a great shot.

Yeah his right eye looks like a sustained some damage during rut. We've got another one that would have made the record books that has all of its tynes broke off from fighting only the main beams are there and he's still impressive.

Went hunting with my neighbor to help him train his 5 month old Draht. This dog is incredible. Second day of training ever, and he held a point while we were 30 yards away until he was told to flush out that bird. And he loves plowing through thick brambles and bushes. The more burrs on his face when he comes out, the better a time he is having. I was thoroughly impressed.

Didn't draw an elk tag this year, so I helped my buddy tag his first bull. 9 miles and 3500' above the truck in the Colorado back country. Boned it out and took the meat out in 1 load with 3 of us, then took an 18 mile round trip day to break camp... 2 blizzards made for a fun week in the back country.

1st rifle... Snow came in early and hard this year, really moved the elk around a lot, but they didn't want to leave the high country yet, they came back up the canyons after the snow storms...
