True a hard day of hunting is still better than an easy day at work.

That's a funky looking rack wow. Real wide for such short tines. Any idea about how old he was?

He was at least 5-6 years old. Like you said super short tines, super wide and lots of veining. It was one of the most unique racks I have seen on our lease.

Weird how the G2's are bulbed a little in the middle. I don't think I've seen that before. I would guess it's from some sort of injury, but it's on both sides. Yeah unique rack!

Were his teeth pretty worn down? Maybe he wasn't getting enough nutrition anymore.

My New Mexico bear got a full body mount in it greets everyone as they walk in. Everyone thinks my husband shot it. Nope it was me!

    Didn't realize this thread existed.

2020 Colorado bull. Also took a cow in the same season. Archery season was rough and came up empty handed on a muley.

Heard bull was screaming the last few evenings during our season, but never slipped up to make himself visible. Freezer is full nonetheless :bananadance:

Congrats, that's an awesome bull! And done with a Ruger No.1, very nice!
I'm definitely jealous. I should be on the road right now headed for CO but my elk season was canceled due to the East Troublesome fire.

Glad you spotted the single shot! Double lunged from 204yds, he piled up maybe 40yds away.

Sucks to hear the fires have impacted your season, but hope you were able to get things refunded. I was ~15mi north of the Cameron Peak fire and ~15mi south of the Mullen fire during archery season and the smoke was miserable. Fortunately our elk hunt was west of the blaze(s) / the wind carried smoke away from us. We watched East Troublesome grow quite literally 100k acres in a day :eek2:

Deer rifle season opened this past weekend and saw several deer on opening but were too young to take. Saturday afternoon I was looking at my camera in a different area and found 2 does feeding around 2:00 pm so I decided to make my afternoon hunt on that stand. As I was walking in I saw the two does in the food plot feeding and started thinking how I was going to approach my stand. In the mean time one of the does noticed me and would not turn away. I moved to the left to use the cover to slowly move forward. When I got as far as the cover would allow I decided to try and crawl a little closer, when I had gotten as close as the cover would allow and with the doe still watching in my direction I took the shot on the other doe from my knees. The picture shows the hit doe leaving the food plot and the stream of blood coming from her wound. In all my years of hunting this is what you would call my first stalk.

I've been there and there's nothing better than that one shot and watching things play out exactly like you've seen it happen in your mind.
Watching the fire maps and seeing it grow was unreal. We've been doing a drop camp in the Troublesome basin since 2004 and it will be interesting to see how bad the area really is. We told our outfitter to just apply everything to next year with the hope that we'll be able to get in there. The last I spoke with him, he was hoping to do a flyover this week to see how things look. I know he lost two drop camp tents and gear for sure. It definitely sucks, but after years of beetle killed lodgepoles piling up and all of the dead wood that was still standing, fire is probably the best thing that could've happened in there.

Have only been successful on 1/3 tags so far, got my first antelope buck in October
    3521BCB7-E014-42EE-88FC-E483160160EC.jpg

Went on my first elk hunt in NW Colorado, first season rifle. They all bailed to lower elevations and we didn’t even see any over 4 days of hunting. Wound up getting snowed on too!
    9D28A5DE-84FE-45CD-9A86-8CD4C03B2BE9.jpg

Only hunt I have left is a plains whitetail only tag. Saw no whitetails the first weekend, had a snafu on a buck last weekend that was my own doing (and partially not as well), and had another hunter screw with my shot that same morning  let’s hope late season in December is more productive!

With the cooler weather in Central Texas has everything moving more than usual. I've been pretty lucky this year and haven't had to much hog damage. Went out Wednesday afternoon for a long walk through the woods to scout for deer sign and pull a few camera cards. Got back to the house and my wife said the hogs came through Nd she got on the 4wheeler and scared them off. So I went out to take a look for them with my thermal and found several under a feeder. Got one down and hit another on the run. Then got 6 more over the next three nights.
Here's the pic from the first.

I also sat in some brush Thursday afternoon and watched the parade of deer coming and going to a feeder. Nothing exciting but was Relaxing as hell....

August on the north side of Great Basin. Went with my friend, who also has a tundra, to fill his antelope tag.

What GMU were you in? I've been trying to draw archery antelope for 87/88 for the last few years now.

I got him in 99. It’s a surprisingly hard unit to draw in for rifle, took me 3 years to draw. You’d think with so much private land, it wouldn’t be as popular.
