Went figuring I’d see a bunch of snakes - no snakes but did see an owl, 5 deer, few coyotes, tarantula, and an unidentified small mammal - thinking either a skunk or ringtail. Feels good to be out in the middle of f’in nowhere.

The high light of the season in Imperial Beach is the Surf Dog Competition. I hope you get to see that on a subsequent visit.

Not bad having 85 degree water in party cove all to yourself. 06BCB757-C4BB-4E3D-92E2-87E23D138AAA.jpg2F10EA9C-76B2-494A-A5B3-0CC1AA1980FE.jpg

We ran up to Canyon Lake on Tuesday afternoon while we were down there. IMHO - 85-degree water is nasty. I guess I’m full blooded PNW because I was really expecting a refreshing cold “bite” to the water to offset the 115* heat of the air, but instead it felt like stepping into a bath tub…
We’ve still got snow melt feeding our rivers and leashes up here…

Actually they were letting a ton of water in (tons of tons actually) so the water by Roosevelt dam was 62. Nice and crisp. Cost me $15 paying $5 each to my kids to jump in.

It makes you go numb pretty fast. The kids say it feels like there is sand in the water because it makes them tingle.

Drove through Mt Saint Helens area in the late summer of 1982. Amazing how much it has "healed" in the past 40 years. When I saw it I could not have imagined it ever would recover. I was 18 at the time, the devastation was unreal.

I saw it for the first time 25 years ago, and it was absolutely amazing. We’ve done many hikes since then up very close - and even though it is impressive the amount of healing that has happened, it is still humbling to be able to see the amount of destruction.

This is on the Coldwater Peak trail above the northeast side of Spirit Lake. It is 6 miles in a straight line from the center of the crater. You can see how barren the area still is, and imagine the force it took to snap a tree that size off that high up (and lay everything around it flat).

It was just insane to see that 40 years ago. The force it took to do that much damage must have been overwhelming. We live near Mt Lassen, it last erupted in 1915 and you can see the scars if you know what your looking at.
