    Oops ! Correction !

I was thinking this was a Peregrine Falcon, but it is a female COOPER’S HAWK, which prey on birds as large as mourning doves. Came close to where I was sitting, little birds were hiding under a bush not letting out a peep.

    Cooper’s Hawk Identification:

    1. DARK CAP. Mature Cooper’s Hawk has a dark gray crown that creates a cap-like effect on the head and contrasts with a paler nape.

    2. RED EYE. Mature Cooper’s Hawk has red eyes and dark pupils.

    3. GRAY UPPERPARTS. Back and wings are a slate gray color with no notable markings.

    4. BARRED UPPERPARTS. The breast and abdomen are white with a heavy rufous or rusty-colored barring that can be very dense, extending to the upper legs. White under tail.

    5. TAIL LENGTH. Cooper’s Hawk has a noticeably long tail, marked with three dark, broad bars.

    6. LEGS AND FEET. Legs and feet are yellow, size of a pencil.

The locations of some of these pictures really surprise me. This whole country is a lot more beautiful than most of us give it credit for.

Here are some more of Land Between The Lakes, the largest inland peninsula in the US, less than 2 hours from my house:

A few years back, my wife getting ready for a run. In the distance you can see the vast desert, its always unusual to drive to the desert for snow. This was a few days after a good storm.
