That's my preferred dealership, as well, so I look forward to your report.

I don’t have a 3rd gen but I follow this thread and am very impressed with Toyotas process, turnaround time and the positive experiences.

As compared to GM, my wife’s Yukon waited 9 weeks for a 6.2 engine to come in and the swap took a whole week.

I had no problem finding dealers here doing the engine swap as soon as they could get the new motor in-house. I bought my truck used with 16,000 miles on it. I immediately noticed it was leaking coolant at the water pump. Toyota Dealer replaced the water pump. My tundra now has 20,208 miles on it and was brought to the Toyota dealership for the recall crate engine. During the engine swap, my Toyota adviser told me the water pump was leaking again. I didn’t care since it on the old engine. Interesting though that it would have been on its third water pump within 20,000 miles. Regardless I found a local Toyota dealership that already replaced 12 tundra engines, all with the hoist. I wanted a dealership with enough replacements under their belt. I got my tundra back after 3 full days. My tundra was perfect with no scratches or imperfections. After the engine replacement, still no imperfections. The master tech did an outstanding job. The truck was only driven 5 miles after the replacement. No leaks or error codes. New motor runs so quiet I can’t hear it running at stop lights. The acceleration lag was gone. Motor seems much tighter. The only caveat is I only have 100 miles on the new crate engine. Time & trouble free miles are the truest test. I trust Toyota reliability will prove out over time. Fingers crossed. I’m glad I did the swap. If this engine is as good as most Toyota engines, I’ll trade it long before miling it out. I love the Tundra.

Obviously Toyota improved the engine from the time my original engine was built vs. the replacement engine. Continuous improvement is reality @ Toyota. Nothing but great things to say about my Ohio Toyota dealership.

I’m scheduled for next week in GA but they just told me it would be ready same day so a little concerned there. I may do some service dept shopping.

Swapped a 6.2 in my shop in 3 days with just me and my BIL (his truck). Those are after hours days too, not full work days. And that included having to swap the fuel rails out on the donor as the wiring was faulty.

    Engine swap done.

'22 SR5, 52k miles. No issues to date, other than the annoying throttle lag.

Truck went in last Monday. They called Tuesday afternoon to tell me it was done. Auburn Toyota (NorCal) did the swap. They gave me a '25 Tundra for a loner. I was told they do not take the cab off, they actually said they didn't understand why some dealers were doing that. They recommended 500 miles for the new motor to sink with the transmission for a break in period.

I've put just over 200 miles on the new motor. Drives great. I was skeptical, but the throttle lag seems to be gone! I noticed the '25 didn't have the issue either.

All in it was a positive experience and I'm happy with how my dealer handled the situation.

Just finished the 750 mile tow with a 10k trailer. I changed the original oil on the new long block at 750 miles before the tow.

I have not had any issues with the truck after getting it back with the new long block.

Why? If they pick the engine out with a cherry picker all they do is take the hood off and disconnect it. The new engine slips right in and they can do it same day. I had to take my front skid & transfer case skid plates off so that they could disconnect and lower the transmission from underneath. Other than the engine comes right out.

It's a little more complicated than just "disconnecting" the engine and "slipping" the new one in.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJvL3CVY8Ts

If they are doing it in one day, they are using multiple techs to do the job.

Sorry…meant that with some tongue-in-cheek to this thread. My dealership is absolute top notch at service. I just have a hard time comprehending it being done so efficiently.

Once you get some good mechanics that learn good techniques, I'm sure it can be done in a day, especially with a little help. After they've done a few, it just gets easier.

Cobb county Toyota in Georgia told me it would take a week to replace my engine. Said they would only cover three days of a rental then I would have to pay the rest. I asked why they said it would take a week, they said because they can’t guarantee they would have techs available to work on it.

called Marietta Toyota, they made me an appointment in July and asked what kind of rental I would prefer. Much better experience. Will update in July.

Well considering I watched them pull and place my engine, if they are familiar with the concept it’s pretty simple. The new engine comes full of oil, ready for the turbos to be connected, and the AC compressor/alternator/wiring harness to be swapped over. If the dealership says 6 hours and gets it done in that timeframe I don’t think that warrants a red flag that the work wasn’t carefully or done correctly.

Now I did take donuts in for my techs! :)

If that falls through, I recommend Rick Hendrick or Nalley.

Milledgeville was always good to me too but that’s far from where you are.

And I bet you didn’t scratch the front bumper like the dealer did.

Just had truck towed to dealer 4/12/25.
    2023 Limited with 40K.
I left my house and it started shaking then reduced power. Every light check engine, and warning light was flashing. Limped home at about 2MPH. I thought it was the beginning of engine failure.
Towed it to the dealer and they gave me a loaner for yesterday morning. By the end of day they called and said I had a multiple error codes P030085, P030027,P030000. Said it only needed a ECM re-flash and truck should run like new now. I was a little discouraged, that my family was in the car at the time of failure and could have been a dangerous situation. He basically made it seem like this is a normal symptom and fix to go through. Will keep an eye on it and see if this indeed is the fix for what happened.

Groove Toyota (Denver) proactively reached out to let me know they could order the engine for my VIN and get the work done once the engine is in stock (they qouted 2-3 weeks) - will update back!

I look forward to your update.

I grew up in Englewood. Back then, what is now Groove Toyota was named Burt Toyota. I bought my first Toyota pickup from them in 1982.

My 22 went in for replacement today. Gateway Toyota in Edmonton, Alberta. Dealership has been great to deal with and they took me into the shop and showed me exactly what they were going to do. Should have it back in a couple days.

I had missing bolts and clips after I got mine back from the dealership in January. I would have complained but I had my new 25 Pro waiting to get picked up.

I only found out because I had to uninstall my Alpharex headlights. Who else knows what wasn’t put back on. I know this can’t be a blanket statement for all dealerships but I would double check everything you can before driving off.

On another note, the new motor drove really good!

I'd be leery of any dealership that is doing the cab-off method for these engine swaps. Not only does that method go against Toyota's recommendations, it requires disconnecting and re-connecting far more components.

The vast majority of dealerships are doing the cab-on method, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive, based on reports in this thread.

The folks at my dealer actually laughed when I asked if they were doing cab off. I told them I had read of shops doing it that way, nobody could understand why.

Just got my 22 back yesterday. Took about 1.5 days to complete. Definitely feel a difference in torque/power compared to the old engine. Only put a few miles on it thus far but very happy with the whole process.

Kind of struggling with the decision of when to replace mine. I have a '22 with apprx 38k miles, and no issues. On one hand, I was considering just letting it go until it gets up there in mileage. But then again, I kind of have a FOMO thing going on where I just want my new engine. I also don't want to get stranded somewhere since I tow a camper. IDK
