Well, after looking again today after this week's trip I was looking at the truck again and they didn't fix the seepage that I had on the engine side of the coolant system. The hose clamp was slightly loose. I guess I will replace the hose and both clamps.

Those are not OEM clamps. Unacceptable

Got my truck back yesterday after getting the engine replaced and 4 other safety recalls. Had 35k on the original 2021 build without any issues but I do think it was getting louder at idle over time and was starting to notice some nocking when towing on acceleration.

dropped it off Tuesday 8 am. Received the truck Thursday 3 pm. The engine itself only took 2 of those days.

The new engine is noticeably quieter. One of the recalls was a transmission reprogramming. I have noticed some
Clunkier shifting but I’m hoping that will go away as the computer learns. I only have 30 miles on the new engine so far. Planning a proper break in like when the truck was new. I intend to Have this truck a long time.

I also mentioned some minor wind noise and they ordered a wind noise kit. I don’t think they even took it on a test drive there’s just a TSB for wind noise and probably deal with that all the time.

My Toyota rep was worthless for information as I’m used to and expected. Pretty sure they must have had to change the transmission fluid correct?

Do you (or anyone else) happen to know the TSB for wind noise?

I'm guessing they ran out of factory clamps and just went to local ace hardware across the street for something similar?
Maybe half a turn on the screwdriver would stop the leak?

Yeah, we told him those weren't factory clamps when he first discovered a leak after his engine replacement. Apparently he never did anything about it.

Manufactures haven't used those worthless worm gear hose clamps for decades.

Um why not use the ones that were there? I usually just slide the clamp back onto the hose when removing the hose and when it's put back in place, I slide it forward. Absolutely no reason to lose the clamps. Looks like a tight area so maybe the tech found it easier to use the worm screw clamps. The flexible tool you use to deal with these clamps should be in EVERY Toyota technicians tool box. As the guy said below, those worm screw clamps suck.

I thought this too as it looks like the infamous "cracked coolant pipe" on the back of the 3rd gen Tacomas. Guys got three worm screw clamps on in different places so maybe the tech was chucking clamps at it. Definitely worth looking into

Both ends of that hose have the worm drive clamp. I got a good 1/2=3/4 turn on the clamp but will replace the hose and clamps.

While you're entitled to your opinion, I don't consider a couple of hose clamps a major issue. It will literally take the owner, or dealership, about 5 minutes to replace those clamps with the proper OEM style clamp.

The vast majority of owners, who have had engines replaced, have reported improved engine performance with zero problems. Most replacements are being completed in 2-3 days, which tells me the techs have it down to a science.

Assuming the old engines don't blow before being replaced, which the vast majority haven't, this recall could be viewed as a bonus, and many do. Heck, my truck isn't included in the recall, but I'd love for Toyota to offer me a brand new engine after I've put 50-60K miles on the current one. I would do it without hesitation or concern.

What has everyone experienced as far as fluid changes? Ive seen mixed information. Is transmission fluid done? Mine is scheduled for engine replacement in just over a week and I'll be just hitting 60k at that time. If they're going to charge a ton for transmission fluid service I may just do it myself. What has your experience been?

I had a coolant leak in my 22 at 800 miles. It was a coolant tank support rod and clamp the service manager told me looked like it came from Home Depot. Year into the 22s he said never seen one like that before. Not standard OEM.

He canned the parts so I did not see them.

Lots of strange stuff happens at factories, dealerships and the Toyota regional middle man lots

@Jymbeux Just had my engine replaced this week. No notation of xmsn fluid replacement. BTW, 55,500 miles on the original and no issues. Dealer put me on the list for replacement after asking what the process was. 3 wks later they said bring it in.IMG_0097.jpg

I had the same question, as there was a line on my ticket that claimed “transmission fluid 1”, but they only top it off a bit, maybe a quart. Farther back in this thread there is a good explanation. They also do not change the air filters. And they may not Re-set the oil maintenance.

The new engine is great though, I am about 7,000 miles on it and 1 oil change. It idles better, and my transmission has relearned and back to smooth (that actually didn’t take long) and with the summer weather and summer fuel, I am regularly back to 20-23 Mpg’s in many instances,

Great feedback thank you! Good to know about air filters. Ive got the trd ones. Also have a fumoto drain plug I'll have to make sure they don't toss. I have very low faith in my dealership, but I've gone to a few in the Puget sound area and none have impressed me.

I too had the Fumoto drain plug. I talked to the service advisor about it and left a Ziploc bag taped to the Info screen. I was able to talk to the tech and he reassured me he would make it happen.

Not sure exactly who is maintaining that, but they can add my factory motor failure... Got my truck back July 3rd. They had it over a week because they said they didn't have the motor there which they apologized for. I had an appointment set up 6 weeks ago. They originally said it would take 2-3 days. They also used a hoist from the front, which was how I wanted it done.

I had a Valvomax oil drain plug I originally forgot I had on my truck but I texted the Service rep and he said he would set it aside because he's not allowed to put aftermarket parts on, which I understood. Problem was they needed to have a plug to put on my motor, which I couldn't find. A new plug was $7 which I had to buy, however, when I picked the truck up they said they comped the plug.

I put the TRD grille on with OEM marker lights and BD lightbar about 2 months ago. I disconnected them and put blue painters tape on parts of the harness and let them know. I don't think they took the front off though so I probably wasted my time doing that. However, they must have taken the windshield cowl off because I ran the light harness in the cowl and when I got the truck back the harness was draped across the back of the motor which was a little disappointing.

The only problem I have seen is the bar that holds the rear of the top engine cover on was put on backwards. This caused a slight vibration noise as the plastic cover rested on the metal causing the faint noise and the only thing holding the cover on where the 2 pins. Easy fix.

No discernable difference in how it runs. My truck ran pretty good with 83K on it. Also had the fuel line recall done.

Work was done at Toyota of Runnemede, which was where I bought the truck last September

    Thanks for the update.

FYI, based on videos I've watched of the cab-on engine replacement, they definitely take the cowl off to provide room.

Overall, to me, getting a new engine after 83K trouble-free miles on the old one is a bonus, despite the inconveniences. Assuming there are no future problems, of course.

Don’t exactly know which thread to post this in but this one seemed closest.

Truck going in for the new motor on Tuesday. Was planning to try and squeeze as much out of it as possible but figured I did good with a 125000 problem free kms on original.

Keeping my fingers crossed the new motor doesn’t give me trouble but from what the guys on here have said, it sounds like they are definitely improved.

2022 Limited, 4x4, DC, only 11k miles, June 2022 build date, no issues.
June 3rd I received notice that my truck was eligible during Phase 4 of the recall. I decided not to wait, even with the low mileage, since I do tow a 35 ft. 7000 lb. RV a couple times a year. Didn't want to take the risk of being stranded with that in tow.

I ordered my engine through Balise Toyota of West Springfield, MA (original dealer where I purchased new). After a 4 week delay I was able to get in on July 8th. I got a RAV4 hybrid for a loaner. Both the engine recall and the fuel line recall were done, along with the Mass. State inspection which was due this month. Picked it up on July 11, three day turn around. I have to say they did a very good job on the replacement, using the extended lift and hood off. My dealer has been averaging 2 engine swaps a week.

The new engine is noticeably quieter at idle and appears to run smoother than the original. No leaks or rattles so far, so I'm happy. Less than 100 miles on it and no more turbo lag. I'll keep an eye on the MPG as I break it in. Still plan to do early first oil change, then every 5k.

Still need to do a final? recall for the backup lights when that's available. I don't think I ever had a month go by without some open recall, but at least Toyota has been standing by their product and addressing the issues. This is my 3rd Tundra and still loving it.

June 2022 build with 27K miles no real issues. Got the engine swapped last Thursday and got another Tundra for a loaner. Took my dealer 2 days for a cab off method and everything looks to be in the right place with no new rattles/vibrations(possibly better even). I also had them change the transfer case/differentials fluid. Like the others here, new engine seems to idle quieter and nice smooth pulls, throttle lag seems slightly better. Overall happy with the process.

Ford is giving all 2.7L/3.0L recall vehicles a 10/150k warranty whether the engine is replaced or not. For a problem they claim is a 1% failure rate

    Must be nice

Hopefully no one will have to use the 12/12k, or whatever it is, or use their normal warranties on the new engine, but yeah, would’ve been nice. I got an 8/125k when I bought my truck used, knowing that engine failure was a possibility, so different perspectives changes things lol.

Hope is not a plan. Or a warranty

Toyota can and should do better

Everyone's situation is different. I am 3 months out from 3/36 expiring but still have RTO bullshit hanging over me as a remote employee. If I start commuting the Tundra will have to quickly go for more MPGs. So paying for an extended warranty may hender my ability to call Carvana to come and get her on a dime. I have canceled extended warranty before with a Toyota. It can be slow.

I would have not br concerned if 1) confident in the new engine or 2) Toyota warranty was realistic
