A little over 11k on the new engine, almost out of warranty.. Running great.

    Hm,
My dealer rep said "1 year, unlimited mileage" warranty on the replacement engine....but I certainly won't argue that he was 100% correct on that (which, I assume, wouldn't be the case, and 12K/1yr sounds more standard)

Do we have a definitive answer for this, from anyone here?

Depends on the dealer it seems. Toyota sent out special engine hoists for these jobs. Mine was through the hood. Best to ask.

I used Rick Hendrick in Sandy Springs. Best for service that I’ve used. I would avoid World Toyota - we had a bad experience there.

Jim Hudson Toyota (Sumter SC) A+ engine, fuel line and brake squeak replaced. Had a nice Highlander as loaner. No issues with truck after work…so far. Very pleased with outcome.

Done last week. Engine runs smoother, feels less confused about how to respond to throttle input. Definitely quieter: my high pressure fuel pumps clacked like a couple of old crows before. AC doesn't seem as cold, but no noise from the compressor. Surprised they didn't change the serpentine belt, woulda asked for a new one if I knew they weren't changing. Service department was awesome, they even sent me pix (at my request).

Rental truck situation was a shit show, but that's on Enterprise, not the dealership who arranged it. Overall happy. Got three other recalls done, transmission thingy, fuel line and emergency brake, now I see the new one on reverse lights, ffs.

Also asked them to update the headunit software, which they did without charge, even though they struggled with it over more than three attempts.

PSA- I have been meaning to post this for quite awhile. The guys swapped the engine, but the oil change reset was never reset, so it was off. Not a huge deal, but something to make sure to keep track of.

I plan on keeping the service intervals where they are. Running the break in oil the new engine comes with until it hits the first scheduled interval. That would give me a bit of a break in oil change and then back to the regular intervals. If that makes any sense.

I am already out of warranty on the replacement engine, have a bit over 13k miles on it and it is doing just fine. Other than the 10 mm bolt I found in an air filter pleat and the weepage from the rad expansion tank hose, it has been a excellent experience. Will turn 100k on the truck next week, so I will fully inspect while servicing.and report back if I find anything.

I brought my '22 Tundra in for the Engine replacement and several other recalls at Hendrick Toyota Concord where I originally purchased it. Build date may 2022, 30k Miles. I was not experiencing any engine issues, (other than the notorious occasional throttle lag from rolling stop, but I am not sure if this is an engine issue) however I wanted to get it replaced for safety as we tow a horse trailer semi frequently, and I know most of the failures typically have been between 30-50k.

    -Engine Replaced
    -Fuel Tube recall replaced
    -reflashes for the transmission recalls.

I called to schedule and they ordered all the parts ahead of time, this took about a week and a half
Brought the truck in Monday 6/2 late before closing, and they had it all done Wednesday afternoon 6/4, I was very impressed at the speed of the whole process.

Service manager I worked with this time was great (Nicolas) and had excellent communication. He noted that they are still doing 'Cab off' for these as it is the easiest method for them.

Got the truck back and inspected it, other than a few small drops of residue (coolant, oil) in various places from draining and refilling fluids, I could not tell any difference, everything was hooked up like factory and looked great.
I have not put a huge amount of miles on it yet, and I have been taking it easy, But so far everything is great, runs perfectly. I have yet to encounter the throttle lag which is great but it didn't happen that often, so I will update this if it comes back.
    very happy with the work.

When I purchased it, Hendrick provided a lifetime powertrain warranty on top of the Toyota standard manuf warranty (wonder if they still do this after all the issues ha). I asked about this before the the replacement, and Nicolas said that it will not be affected and its still in place, so that was comforting.

I am wondering if the car fax report would show the engine been replaced under the recall. Does anybody know or can anybody confirm ?

AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Just got back my 2022 with a build date in June. It was dropped off on Monday 6/9 and returned today 6/12.

    - Engine swapped out.
    - Fuel line replacement.

Excellent customer service. The mechanic cleanliness is impeccable. Can’t even tell it was swapped out. The only way you know is the new engine smell.
    Brunswick Toyota in Brunswick, Ohio.
Original dealer that I purchased the truck from.
I had the engine recall done because I’m trailering my SXS on a trip to West Virginia and didn’t want to risk having problems 5 hours from home. Mileage is 23,838.

Looking back at some of the conversations on here about coolant leaks my old engine apparently had the start of a coolant leak starting to show on the engine block.

Well i would say it would help in the decision making weather to buy those model year(s) or not, just like any accident report would.

On the new engine break in do they recommend not towing? Can’t recall if not towing was a transmission thing or an engine thing.

I honestly believe new vehicles don't require the typical "break in" of old. Sure you don't want to do full throttle pulls while towing a large trailer up a 15% grade but a little common sense goes a long way. When I purchased my truck new in 2016 I picked up my TT a week later with only 500km (300miles) on the truck. I just drove reasonably and avoided full throttle while also not doing any very aggressive braking. Towed the trailer home about 200km and continued to drive the truck normally. 10 years later truck and trailer are doing fine with nothing but regular maintenance.

Think about all the work trucks bought, they get driven off the lot and onto the job site and are driven by people who don't own them and get hundreds of thousands of miles piled onto them, most without major issues. Vehicles are machines, meant to be used (not abused), so many people baby their trucks, you'd think it was a piece of priceless porcelain. Someone on hear has been quoted as saying "Drive more, worry less".

One thing I DO try to break in is brake pads. As per most pad manufacturers, get onto a quiet country road and do a proper pad bed in.

According to the owners manual (below) it's for any new drivetrain component. I'm sure it would be fine, but I am going to follow the recommendation from the manual just in case and put at least 500 on it before towing again. I want this second engine to last a long time

    ■Break-in schedule
If your vehicle is new or equipped
with any new power train components
    (such as an engine, transmission,
    transfer [4WD models], rear
    differential or wheel bearing), Toyota
recommends that you do not tow a
trailer until the vehicle has been
driven for over 500 miles (800 km).
After the vehicle has been driven for
over 500 miles (800 km), you can
start towing. However, for the next
500 miles (800 km), drive the vehicle
at a speed of less than 50 mph
    (80 km/h) when towing a trailer, and

I towed some dirt bikes / hauled a bunch of camping gear within 800 miles (I think) of my engine swap with zero issues after. I also did a longer road trip in hotter temps within the first 1500 miles (200ish miles in 100 degree weather). I’m at about 7k on the new engine now. I did an oil change at around 2000 miles on the new engine and it looked great, so maybe just do an extra oil change after towing since things are getting hotter.

Ya you definitely wouldn’t notice a problem right away. I’m not worried about it blowing up. Just curious what they are recommending .

Well, did my 3rd oil change and have 14k on replacement engine. Everything looks fine and is running fine. Looking forward to the next 100k miles.
