If you fallow this on Facebook it feels like it’s happening to a good number of trucks. Hopefully we get some more info soon. There’s a lot of tundras sitting at dealers with 300 miles on them. Or maybe it just seems that way.

Bum deal. I recall the when the Tacoma had the latest gen, they had issues with leaky diffs and a lack of parts. People were screaming all over Tacomaworld about being required to leave their new vehicle at the dealer, months in many cases. And from what I recall, in the event the owner wasn't going to leave it, they were to sign a waiver.

How exactly is that a bum deal? You want the dealer to fix your vehicle and they don’t want you driving it, possibly damaging it further. As far as how long it sits, that probably depends on how long it takes to come up with a proper solution.

Either I should have actually given my specific stance or you shouldn't be as good as you are about implying what one thinks.

Regardless, I will elaborate so we can both do our part. It sucks people are having issues. It is great Toyota is going to fix them and prevent further damage. One would think that a diff seal wouldn't be extremely hard to procure especially compare to this specific issue. I hope it doesn't take as long for our fellow members. Bum deal.

Bum deal to make the plunge for most and get into a new truck payment, be excited for your new highly reliable Toyota that won’t have to be in the shop all the time (major part of many people’s decisions) and then have an issue that Toyota says you can’t drive it and it will be months for parts. BUM DEAL.

The 2022 3.5 engine has no exhaust manifold. Turbo is bolted right to the head. More research needed before posting.

You're right, especially since this was already used in the Lexus for years. Maybe one bad batch, and that happens. But for every one legitimate issue, there are 2k without that issue.

But I first really need to give a sincere and heartfelt shout out to all of our brothers with the 2.5 and prior generation. Your love, concern, and commitment for those of us with this 3rd generation model is unsurpassed. The way you search social media for 2022 Tundra issues and post whatever you can on this website, placing us above your own family time. I feel bad bad that you are all spending your time looking out for us, I'd like to give back to your community:

    The Sky is falling

The world will end in 2000

Aliens have invaded earth and brought a bad batch of turbo parts

The least Toyota could do, for anyone being without their truck for a while and/or having the cab off, would be to increase the powertrain warranty to 10/100,000

It’s not the same motor as the Lexus LS but it’s the same as the Land Cruiser. Anyone a member of middle eastern Land Cruiser forums??

I'm sure Toyota will figure something out and this issue isn't going to be a major problem, but you can't say the V8 guys were wrong when they said that a TTV6 will never be as reliable. And after looking at the increase in price, marginal mpg gains, and now reliability issues, it's really not looking too good at the moment for this new Tundra.

Well it just happened to me. I'm not going to mess around with this. I'm not going to let my truck sit outside for months waiting on parts etc. I'm looking into trading it in for something else.

You should at least try clearing the code and see if it comes back first.

I agree with this recommendation, but I also respect that this type of issue happening (even if it never comes back) leaves you with a nagging uncertainty about the vehicle. Our 2018 Tiguan had a bunch of nagging issues (e.g., throttle body, wiper fluid cap, random sensor malfunctions) and I can’t get rid of it quickly enough.

I'd like to have a pickup but if I have to I'll get a Highlander black on black. I want to stay in the Toyota family but this is unacceptable. And clearing a code on a vehicle with 250 miles is a bad omen. I've already contacted my dealer and told them I want to trade this. I'll keep you posted on how this is handled. Bottom line-regardless of a new model or not the trucks should not have been sold this way and Toyota should have reached out to the affected buyers. They can keep the Tundra. I'll get a pickup truck again one day but not like this.

Sorry guys I am just angry about this.

This isn’t a new motor. Not sure why the supplier was changed.

I would see what Toyota is going to do for you first, then make a decision.

Toyota is investigating this issue. It seems so few people have this issue they’re having a hard time finding any pattern. Likely some news should come out soon.

As others mentioned, I also recommend clearing the code. If you don’t have a code scanner, you can just disconnect the 12 volt battery. If the code comes back again, I would contact the dealer to figure out your options. I wouldn’t worry because wastegate position is tracked very accurately and if it gets stuck, the ECM will protects the engine from overboost of stuck closed.

"So Few are having the issue". They might wanna log onto Facebook and a couple of forums, it might narrow it down for em. I would bet for every once person that posts it on social media, there are 5 others that didn't and just disconnected the battery, reset the codes and kept driving...

Meh, honestly I don't buy that for a second.
And FB is hardly a barometer for anything but fear mongering and hype. Hell, half of those posting are likely Big 3 fanboys...
Any issue is important, especially for those dealing with it (!) but the feeding frenzy in this country anymore over everything is ridiculous.

Except every post is different mileage and a screenshot. There's plenty and it's not big 3. It's actually die hard toyota fans. But keep on, I love watching people excuse Toyota on this.

They'll fix it yes, but even fanbois can say Toyota is dropping the ball a bit.

There's a Toyota tech on the FB group that just stated that their dealership alone currently has four in the shop with turbo wastegate issues.....

Hey, I have a ten point list of things that I think Toyota dropped the ball on this truck and this wastegate situation isn't even on there. Who makes a double cab that won't fit a teenager?
When a company like Toyota introduces a truck with so many different colors, textures, finishes across these trim levels I have to shake my head. I don't know who was on this design team, but I'm shocked that the company didn't reveal this truck to the masses and to get public opinion and design cues years ago.
There is one attractive truck in this lineup imho, the TRD Sport.

I want a 20mpg Toyota, it's the only reason I'll sell my current Tundra, and it's why I'm taking the base trim. I could afford any level.

Doesn't the wastegate code cause a major power reduction?

If so, your advice is pretty bad. I can think of at least 10 situations I really wouldn't want a surprise power cut/limp mode. Recommending someone simply reset the CEL seems super sketchy to me. I'd park the truck and have it towed, or maybe reset the CEL and carefully drop it off at the dealership. No way would I continue driving the truck
