Portland - Mt Hood area August 20-26

Any recommendations of great solo wheeling trails, camp spots, attractions, or restaurants would be GREAT!!

I'll be solo for the entire week so if any of you OR cats are up to something, or up to no good, I'm a great person to invite!

I'm trying to spend as little $$ as possible so i'm not into much night life unless there is a good band i have to hear. I want some terrific hikes and biking if you know of any.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'll be staying in Tahoe around August 17-19 (unless we take a different route yet TBD)

I'm hoping to have my bike in working condition by then. My back derailer snapped off and i've been saving money for this trip and a trip to the Mediterranean in October. My bike has taken back seat

If you're looking for good mountain biking around Mt. Hood, there are a ton of cross country trails on the east side of the mountain, Dog River, Surveyor's Ridge. There's also the Sandy Ridge Trail system on the west side of the mountain, purpose built by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. Climb the road up, and all the trails take you back to the same place, so pretty much impossible to get lost. There's also a trail called Timberline to Town, starts at Timberline Lodge and takes you back down to the bottom of the mountain. Cool thing about that one is that you can take the Mt. Hood Express shuttle from the bottom all the way up to Timberline and then ride down. I'm not sure what the traffic is going to be like when you're up here though, people up here are freaking out about the eclipse taking place on the 21st. So, if you're planning on being around Mt. Hood, probably best to get out there early. I usually ride Timberline to Town at least every other week, if you're interested maybe we could hook up and ride. There's also Post Canyon, which is fairly close to Mt. Hood, they have a ton of trails out there to ride.

    Thanks for the beta!
If I don't get my bike fixed where can I rent one for a couple days? There's probably a ton of shops, huh?

Yup, there's a ton. If you come into Portland, go to western cycle works or Santiam bikes. Good selection of high end rentals.

Even without the kids... I 84 along the gorge is a beautiful drive... and if you hike up to the falls it's a good workout... all paved, but lots of switchbacks and great waterfall...

If you like ice cream... I'm told the Salt and Straw ice cream shops are the place to go... I haven't made it there yet...but if you make it further south in the Willamette Valley to Eugene... hit me up!!! I'll take you to all the great eateries and Breweries!!!

Sounds great. I have quite a bit of miles on trails, are there any more remote trails to find some dirt rather than pavement? I've heard a lot about Multnomah Falls. I'm sure i'll get there if that many people are talking about it

I failed to look when was posted though it still sounded bad to me. Dumping kid off so you can have fun sounds wrong. Just my opinion.
