The biggest thing you need to check is the output of your twist lock plug on your generator mine is a true 30 Amps. some are not. The higher wattage generators get their wattage from combining all the plugs so a 10,000 W generator might have a 50 amp twist lock plug which equates to half of the output the other half is by adding up all the 110 V outlets so bigger isn’t necessarily better

My brother has the predator harbor freight 3200 W generator which has a 30 amp two pole plug but the output on that plug is only 15 Amps so that’s one thing to consider before purchasing

Will they let you install it yourself or a qualified electrician as opposed to them?

I think them or qualified electrician. They have to remove your meter and install this between.

That price seems high considering they’re only paying about a fourth of that in materials to do the job

Yes here in Pennsylvania you’re allowed to remove your own meter and do work that’s why I was asking just seems really expensive for just a transfer switch

Beats the 4K quote I got from another electrical company to install a sub panel, relocate breakers, and install a 30A receptacle on the outside.

Yes, my electrical company is a co-op.

    yup, Rappahannock

Dominion Virginia Power also offers one. They call out the Generlink on their website. Rappahannock didn’t specify but in my assuming the same.

I’m about 20 miles south of Madison.

4 weeks ago we lost power for 6 days and 2 hrs. That’s why I’m on this generator kick.

I actually rent, and my landlord is paying for the transfer switch. That’s why I got the portable Gen to take with me when I leave.

Good deal that’s a great plan you can use that thing anywhere you go. I’ve been all over the country doing line work seeing all kinds of crazy set ups some scary some not just hate to see people overpay glad you’re getting everything worked out

Just make sure to run fuel stabilizer in your generator especially since it might sit for several months at a time without use the ethanol destroys the guts

Yeah. I want to do this safely. I think I could safely do the suicide plug and back feed, but if my landlord is willing to pay for the transfer switch, even better.

Lol. After all this I’ll probably never need it!

but better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

100 percent Beautiful country down there but the weather and the terrain makes restoring power an arduous task
