Shouldn't make any difference. Probably why nothing was done in regards to changing the pickup location. The PML's for the 5.7L should be coming out soon.

I am definitely down for this pan, thanks for the info. On a side note when I purchased my project truck not knowing if the tran service was done at 90K I wanted the dealer to do a full flush and service. The Toyota Master tech said absolutely not and recommended they do what you described above, unless I am having problems with the transmission. He told me especially on higher mileage vehicles a full flush and service usually means the death of these transmissions and it's just better to do a partial fluid change and leave it be.

Based off the install pics, having a tough time judging where it sits in correlation to the frame. Does it extend down past or is it flush?

Has anyone got an update on the performance of the new pan?

I know it says that the new pan is still above the frame, but I can't help but notice that the bottom of the "shorter" pan has clear signs of contact with the ground... Does the idea of lowering the bottom of that pan by 1.5" make anyone else nervous?

Who knows where that OEM has been? No need to get nervous at all. Any tranny pan can get possibly scratched up off roading if not protected. Hence>>>>>>>RCI tranny skid and it shouldn't interfere with the PML pan, but you can always add spacers similar to the ones used on front skids with the diff drop.

Thats pretty rad! Can anyone confirm this thing actually helps with cooling? Otherwise the extra fluid doesn't strike me as the one reason to do it.

You get 3 1/4 quarts of additional capacity. The prime reason for that is to lower temps. It has internal baffles in conjunction with the external heat sink fins. Most reviewers stated an increase in cooling. 10 to 12 degrees F. Not earth shattering but combined with the external kit that members are adding on the newer Tunny's without the cooler should be a big plus, especially in hi demand situations if you tow a lot. B&M makes them too but PML specializes in hi capacity pans.
Keep in mind keeping tranny temps down when hitting the dunes is a plus. Sand puts a pretty decent load on your tranny and raises temps pretty fast.

They don't cool, they help dissipate heat. The taller the fins, the better dissipation you get. Heat sinks are used on most power transistors and SCR's to prevent overheating. High tension transformers on power lines have the fins to help dissipate heat.

I’d love to see testing on this for the 2019+.

I am interested in a pan upgrade for higher capacity but if it helps a bit with thermal management and is an easy install done when servicing it’s a huge help.

For anyone that has installed the PML pan, any feedback? Do you also have a skid plate or cat protection plate and are there any clearance issues?

Yes this. Im interested but have RCI trans skid. Concerned about clearance.

I tow a bass boat in summer so this may help...not that i noticed any issues with stock.

:notsure: In heat transfer terms isn't cooling and heat dissipation the same thing if there is no phase change (gas to liquid, liquid to solid)?

The trans fluid is always liquid so the temperature must decrease at that location if you dissipate heat from it.

Exactly. The heat sink "fins" dissipate heat. Heat sinks are used to help prevent overheating by dissipating heat. Not all heat sinks are fins. Example....this RF Measuring Receiver has 4 high power transistors that still get pretty hot even with a 1" thick honeycomb heat sink. Same principle. Heat sinks are a passive device used simply to dissipate excessive overtemps that could damage the transistors over time and cause them the fail.

Bumping this as I myself looked for this answer a couple weeks ago and couldn't find anything except these unanswered questions. Apologies if out of line with reviving the dead thread.

I installed the RCI aluminum engine and tranny skids plus cat guards on my 2012 5.7 limited this weekend. No clearance issues with the PML tranny pan. I don't have a diff drop so I didn't deal with the spacers on engine pan. There is still a gap between bottom of PML deep tranny pan and the RCI tranny skid. Hard to get to so I can't measure it, but it's enough. Maybe an inch, maybe a bit less. But enough for airflow and clearance for any flex if you strike any debris, I would think.

No issues with install. The "new" or updated RCI tranny skids (which are what I received) already have the holes cut out for the cat guards. Apparently with the older version ones you need to cut the holes yourself. I lined the cat guard bolts up as best I could to the "center" of the pre drilled rectangular holes on the tranny skid, and it all lined up great during install, no adjustment needed. I first loosely mounted the crossmember adapter to the tranny skid before wheeling it below truck with floor jack. Bit of wiggling and rubber mallet banging to wedge it into the space to mate with the engine skid with the 4 inch carriage bolts. Then aligned up the crossmember thing and attached it to the frame (two bolts). Then had to maneuver around to get my hands inside the skid to do the final tightening of the tranny skid to the cross member adapter bolts. Drivers side rear bolt was a PITA. Got a ratcheting wrench in there through the drain hole opening then used another wrench hanging over the side to push it to tighten, then reached back through drain hole to reset the ratchet and repeat until I felt it was tight enough. Then I was able to reach in the drain hole cutout and grab my tools when done. The other three bolts were easy to access and got nice and tight for sure.

Note - the PML deep pan does not have the drain and check holes in the same spot as stock, so the cutouts on the RCI skid aren't any help for trans fluid change with the PML deep. You could drill your own holes where you need them, or just drop the plate, but I'll deal with that in 50k miles or so later on :D

Thanks for posting this, looks like people have been asking about clearance since they came out. Will likely do this if/when I do a valve body upgrade and need to drop the pan again now that I know it fits under an RCI skid.

And here it is from the back - was able to reach in from the back end and grab a pic with phone and tape measure. Since the pan is slanted a bit, it looks like it gets as much as 3 inches clearance (tape measure body) and at least 1.5 from the existing drain hole in the skid to the closest cooling fin of pan.

... Not sure what the reddish stain is ... hoping it's just some leftover ATF on the exterior of pan that dripped off with condensation... :O will update if it's anything else.

Have you noticed any lower overall temps with the increased fluid capacity?

If you buy the B&M pan for SDHQ they give you the option to add the factory Toyota gasket and filter fyi! Huge plus. Yes it does drop the temps on the trans.
