Plugging Roof Holes

Not really sure where to post this. I am looking at buying a 2nd Gen, but the previous owner installed clearance lights on the roof of the cab. They are drilled into the roof itself. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to plug roof holes? I don’t love the look of these lights but if it’s gonna make the roof leak if I remove them then not a deal breaker. Thanks for any info

 

That's a body shop situation right there. If you're not totally against cab lights, but just against those, then why not try a different cab light setup?

 

I don’t hate them but I’d prefer if they weren’t there, if you know what I mean. Not really worth spending a bunch of money to remove them and fix the holes though. Maybe I can repurpose the holes to wire up some Baja design lights or something in the future

 

I'd leave them, look pretty KEWL IMHO !

 

One could easily fill the holes with epoxy putty, but the paint would be a little tougher to correct due to prior fading.

 

If it were me and I opted to not have lights there, I'd bondo over the holes, sand it flush, and spray paint it with the closest color I found. I wouldn't worry about getting an exact match on the paint, just close enough. I mean, do people look at your roof often? My last truck, the roof color wasn't even close to the rest of the truck, and I rarely looked up there to even care.

Now if the headliner were out for some reason, then I might be tempted to plug weld the holes...

I personally think marker lights look stupid. But if I were to buy that truck, I'd leave them be. Not worth the time, money or hassle to remove or replace.

 

I think you should let them be and instead use GE or whatever else makes weather resistant (UV resistant) silicone so you ensure water is not getting in..and check up on that every 2-3 years.

 

To be honest the headliner comes out really, really easily. Look up YouTube videos. Then have a guy spot weld the holes and sand it. A respray of just the roof would be cheap and no one would notice. Nice thing, the blue doesn’t fade too bad it would hardly or quite literally be unnoticeable.
BTW, you got yourself a nice truck there. Heck of a deal. I’m not into the Bro roof lights either. They’d be gone!

 

I’d get matching thickness sheet metal, spot weld, and sand it flat. If needed use body filler to smoothen it out before primer and paint.
