It’s nice not dealing with rust issues out here. My ex’s dad would visit from NH with a one way ticket and drive square body Tahoe’s and Suburban’s back.

Can imagine. I may drive out and stay a few weeks and get a one way back AND have premium cash for a down payment on new. Mind is blown on those resales out there.

Now that you point it out I can see that it's from the axle. Looks like they rattle canned right over the grease.

Yeah. You can see the paint can overspray on some of the other parts too (carrier bearing, trans, etc).

Dealerships don’t care to fix parts that a little spray paint can “cover up”.

I think it worked out for you. That frame is definitely repainted. There’s a GM dealer (several) out here. If you go their lot and look at used trucks you’ll see it’s been painted over.

Its that time of year when everyone is hunting new(er) vehicles. Keep looking, but it might be better pickings in the fall/winter. Stay vigilant!

    A year ago I sold a 2006, limited, 4x4, 4 door with 180000km for $14k Canadian. Dealer offered me $7k lol!
Its was a gem. Be patient and do not overpay for a 12yr old truck.

Those look sweet. Especially the Darrel “Walltrip” Edition. Wonder what that one is going for?

Definitely being patient but you have to move on the great deal immediately when it comes. Like your example of your sale but the exchange rate for 14K canadian and 180K km back into miles makes it a little obscure... Thanks though..

Already mentioned what I was looking for in initial posts... looking for a classic rendition of the 2006 Tundra, 4x4, low mileage, trd (hopefully), DOUBLE CAB, california or low rust state, in great condition. A 4x2 is pretty easy to find but doesn't retain it's value as well nor lend itself to tahoe ski runs or off road camping.

I paid $14k for a 06 TRD access cab 4x4 with 60,000 miles. I know it’s below blue book, but was this a good deal?

If you got it on the west coast, a pretty good deal, especially with low mileage like that. Keep in mind the double cab is more expensive, which is what I want...

Yeah, I've seen that one for a while. For some reason, maybe price, that one has been on the market for a while. The interior is a little run down and looks like a serious stain on the back seat. AND the one color I definitively don't want is black. And those tires and rims look pretty bad to me.

Here's one that came up recently in UT and the guy said there is absolutely no rust underneath. But you can notice the spraycoat underneath in the pictures but I can't see any rust. He told me they did it as a precaution but I'm pretty sure there was some surface rust... scroll through pics to see the undercarriage. I am not considering this truck for several reasons like a 6inch lift and poor interior/bed.

    http://tyackemotors.com/product/2006-toyota-tundra-double-cab-sr5-4x4/

Hate to say it but I'm beginning to consider a tacoma long box.... I like their look with a slight lift and tires as well as being small enough for city driving. A nice 2006 Tundra is hard to find and I'm running out of time as I need it for work as well. Still looking but have to keep my options open.. or, at least more open.

Lionscourt. My 02’ 4wd has had a bit of surface rust. She was under the Toy recall for rusted frame spray for years until I took her in to dealership a few weeks back. They sprayed the back half with an oily coating. No perforations in the frame just some surface stuff. Not sure you’ll find a perfect frame. Even before I took her in for recall I lightly sanded, wiped clean, and Rustoleum coated the frame in flat black as a preventative measure. Nothing wrong with the spray on the frame as long as there are no bubbling or perfs in the frame. Think you’ll wish you went Tundra if you do the Taco. Night and day difference. Just speaking from a friends experience not liking the Taco and then switching to Tundra. That 06’ year is nice.

Personally, I would keep looking for an 05-06. As @Professional Hand Model said, you will end up regretting the Tacoma for interior space and the v6. Many owners on here have left their Tacoma’s and I haven’t heard of a single one regret that decision.

I would also stay clear of the 6” lift or any lifted ones at that. Chances are they have been abused off-road and not in the best of shape. Also if you need it for work, throwing and removing shit in the bed of a truck with a 6” lift and 35’s gets annoying real quick, from experience.

Keep looking and you’ll be rewarded with a gem.

That Taco shallow(er) seat pan is very annoying. Tighter headroom.

Yeah... I'm 95% 2005/2006 Tundra. There's been a few that just came on the market and hit most of my checks. I've really wanted a green one and this one just came on yesterday with 127K miles but looks really good. Haven't got the undercarriage pics yet.---after researching dealer with a history of red flags...---I'll have to pass on this one even without pics.

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...l?listingId=468455504&hideBackLink=true&Log=0

I've also found another one in gray that hits every check but haven't got undercarriage pics yet.:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed: The salesman, who will accept a hold deposit, wasn't even aware it had come in yet. It's in the initial service they do when something first comes in. Meaning it's not on the lot yet. It's a 2006, 4x4, DC, Limited, 88K miles, TRD....
