Stand down everyone, I have arrived....:turtleride:

    @eddieb02 You're frame looks very similar to what I was faced with when I bought my Tundra. I ended up purchasing frame repair sections from here;

    https://www.autorust.com/product-category/toyota/tundra-2000-2006/

Excellent company and great assistance. I had to do a huge amount of work to bring my frame back from the dead, which is all documented in my rebuild thread. It involved days and days (Actually weeks worth) of cleaning, sanding, scraping, painting and welding. Those frame caps I bought really saved my bacon.

I'll send you a PM as well. As far as the meme's and kidding, like BMF said, it's what we do. No harm is meant at all. If you're going to own a Tundra, thicken up that hide!

Just an FYI, Eddie... If you purchase that frame cap kit from Autorust it does come with the Sway Bar mount brackets. You'll just need to bolt the bushing bracket to the new mount after the bracket is welded onto the frame cap.. Make sure it's installed in the correct location. I welded mine about 2 inches too far forward... Woops.

@N84434 thx for helpful info i did come across that site before - and im fairly handy so figured i could probably weld one of those in - before i do i wanted to just take care of the frame with a solid scrap and some por 15 which is a huge job so i wanted to just patch this sway bar mount in the mean time to get me thru the summer. Also kinda felt like that huge sleeve would be an over kill... but maybe not

as for the comments on this forum, im not a sensitive guy and have fairly tough skin but i can tell the difference between joking and someone wasting my time with pot shots. i have been under the truck and scrapped and poked around with a screw driver - i know what a junked frame looks like this isnt it and still feels like guys are all too happy to say you you got screwed and are in denial deal with it.

you guys have no idea what i paid for the truck so perhaps i could replace the entire frame and still use the truck for 5 yrs and still sell it at a profit?
but everyone on here is an internet genius

Thx to those with helpful posts - i try to make all my posts helpful and better the board (i figure this will be an issue for many new members as these trucks age)

Nobody cares what you paid for your truck, not sure why you brought that up.
Genius ? No, lots of us have a lot of experience. Not sure why you feel the need for a backhanded insult
Your experience is suspect when you tell us about your purchase and then post pictures that are way worse than the problems you described.
In the picture of your crossmember alone there are at least 3 things that raise big flags and you didn't mention any of them. Frame is cheese grated @ the crossmember mount, GIANT patch on the frame rail and your sway bar bushing is dangling on the sway bar.

So then the question becomes, how did this guy NOT see those things ? If its your lack of experience, thats OK. Own it and ask for help, you'll get it.
Don't get bent and on your high horse about it.
Those of us with experience have ALL made similar mistakes (ok, maybe not that bad. lol) < thats me giving you a bad time.

Welcome to the board, I for one would love to see you fix it all. I've built frames from scratch and personally, thats the route I'd go if I couldn't find a whole replacement.
You said you could PROBABLY weld a repair section. Do you know how to weld ? Just asking. < Thats me NOT giving you a bad time, real question.

I honestly don't think that should be on the roads in that condition, either swap the frame or cut/replace

It looks like the whole frame has been either painted or coated with por15 stuff right over the existing rust. It's already rusting from inside out.

I would leave away bar off and patch that section good before do anything at all. And remount the sway bar mount.

Yes, the frame cap kit comes with a new Sway Bar mount bracket. It all went together very well, once the prep work was done...

Most the frame looks like this, I obv noticed the patch and the cross member bar. That doesn’t bother me as it’s replaceable. And for the price I got a pretty great truck with zero mechanical issues.

Yes I can weld, I don’t think I’m that good at it so prefer not to. I have no idea how I missed this, only thing I can think is I’ve had and been driving around for almost 2 months and it could have snapped off or looked different.
My feelings have not been hurt, I just think 1/2 the reply’s are useless, and someone’s opinion without seeing the full truck. I didn’t ask what guys thought of the safety or the viability of patching I simply wanted to know the best way to go about this...

I’ve been lurking on here for a few weeks and never chime in unless I have something useful to say

Inside the weep holes of the frame look even cleaner (see pic) I checked them all - obv mad I missed this bc I could have neg a better deal but mostly bc I wouldn’t have been bombing around in this thing for last few months

I think replacement frame is coated with hard/rubberized coating at the dealership. That could be a reason why it got bad so quick.

called Toyota and they said no open recalls - specifically asked can you confirm that the frame has been replaced and not just serviced - they said replaced in 2014 - CT truck

replacement frames were not coated in the thick rubber coating. BUT it was common for customers to go have it done after frame replacement but in my experiance the rubberized coating is just a sure fire way to rot a frame out quicker.
that being said, knowing its much newer than the truck and that youve done some poking and prodding, repairing it now and painting it well should lead to a long life. BUT whatever you do, dont undercoat. Best of luck. IF it came down to it, a new frame can be purchased.. technically. ~3000 last i checked for the tundra. I bought one for my tacoma a couple years ago.
