not yet. haven't had much time to explore. between trying to get traction for the studio here and all the work on the house i've been doing, time has been much too limited. when i get out, i'm really trying to learn the backroads around the house. at least the mountains are still to the west...

I don't know how many of you guys print your photos but I recently got a canvas from Walmart and I'm very pleased with how it looks. This is the photo that was put on a canvas.IMG_20211223_154424__01.jpg
The detail is fantastic, especially for a canvas.

I will definitely have to give them a shot. Do you have a favorite place to get them from?

i've been using richard for years. film developing, scans, printing.

    https://www.richardphotolab.com/

prints come packed very securely. metal prints are crated.

the other option i've used is bay. they are also very good.

    https://www.bayphoto.com/

before you order a big one, definitely do a sample pack so you can see what the different finishes look and feel like.

Would any of y’all be willing to start telling us what lens and exposure you used to take the pictures? I’m starting into the photography hobby and I’m learning as I go. I’m in the works of building my landscape/adventure kit. Also would you be willing to show off your camera equipment that you use. I’m somewhat of a gear head.

I would, although I post here from my phone and my photography is not on my phone. I shot sports/photo journalism style (fast). I do see the amazing stuff here that I wonder the settings as well. I'll look for something worthwhile of mine and settings to post, although, they are not very technical...

sure. always happy to share what i know.

for gear, this is what is currently on my shelf for stills use.

    canon 1DC
    canon 35/1.4, 50/1.2, 85/1.2, 70-200/2.8 IS, 24-70/2.8, 24-105/4, 16-35/2.8

    leica q (fixed 28/1.7)
leica sl + L to M mount adapter
voigtlander 50/2 and 35/1.2 M mount manual lenses

i'll be adding a sl2-s and some more voigtlander lenses at some point this year. the sl cameras are a joy to use. simple and straightforward with leica's magic pixie dust.

hasselblad 501cm with assorted lenses and film backs

mamiya 645 with assorted lenses and film backs

for my higher end portrait work for clients, i've been renting a hasselblad X1D II. this is simply one of the best cameras i've ever used. hoping work keeps picking up so i can buy one.

not sure if you want info on the lighting and/or video kits but happy to share that too if you want.

    lol. For non-pros who don't have a $50k budget...

If you have a healthy budget but aren't pro: I have a Canon 70D with a 16-35L IS, 100-400L IS II, and the all-round 24-105L IS. I have twitchy hands and prefer the image stabilized lenses. I also shoot mostly hand-held hiking or indoors in bad light. Which lenses are good for you depends on what you want to shoot and if you have a tripod or monopod. For sports you want a long lens with a large aperture to let in the light and allow fast shutter speeds. If you're just shooting landscapes, you want maximum resolution and a wide angle (although telephoto landscapes can be excellent for grabbing details and compressing the image.) If you do portraits, short telephoto (around 80mm) and wide aperture.

If I was buying today, I'd have to look to the new mirrorless cameras (but damn they're expensive - as all good cameras are now days.) They've now overtaken the DSLR's. They're lighter and the autofocus has leapfrogged the DSLR's and you don't have mirror-slap degrading your image.

well, they did say they were a gear head and curious as to what everyone used...

if i were recommending a kit, i would look seriously at a used leica sl from either KEH or MPB. i would pair it with some sigma or panasonic L mount glass, also used. the leica lenses are incredible but even used the prices are stratospheric. if you want to keep things small, take a look at the sigma L mount contemporary lenses. much smaller and lighter than the Art series glass and much less expensive but still great glass.

Honestly I’m a cheap gear head :rofl:and try to get stuff used or as cheap as possible. An example is I just bought a 24mm f1.4 for $900 on Facebook Market place (the lens is $1400 new)

Same thing with moding the truck. I bought a ton of stuff for the rig during Black Friday & Cyber Monday.

I do use a Sony Mirrorless. I figure I can get everything that I still need/want for a decent kit for around $3K. And then just gotta learn how to edit and such.

But thanks to members here and YouTube university I’m on the way. I’m sure as the hobby grows and if I’m able to try it into a little side hustle then I will want more gear. :rofl:It’s a never ending cycle.

Edit: I love watching those “what’s in my camera bag” videos on YouTube. So much fun to see what people are rocking and using to create.

Upgraded our main (video) camera. The monitor came yesterday and still waiting for a couple parts but omg. Sensor’s the size of my fist. 17+ stops of dynamic range. Only downside is it doesn’t fit the fleet of gold mount battery’s we use for the other cameras. Oh, and I’m poor again. Poor and in love.

Haha you DO need one. It’s RED’s new camera. About half as much to buy as their top of the line, but with some strikingly similar stats. My brother’s and I have a company in Boston and make videos for healthcare, biotech and schools. This little guy will be a game changer because of it’s low light shooting and higher frame rate (600fps)
