We're planning to visit Lisa's mom in eastern Ohio for Christmas, so we decided to make an overlanding adventure out of it.

We're heading from Phoenix to Ohio kinda quickly, but will spend about a week driving back home.

Where should we go between Ohio and Arizona?

I already tentatively have the Tundra factory in Texas and the Toyota factory in Indiana, but where do you like to wheel and camp?

What National Parks or amazing views are must-do?

Is there a giant ball of string or the world's largest rubber band ball someplace?

Lisa and I have driven back and forth across the country several times already (LA - NYC), but this time we're going to take our time and enjoy it.

The more dirt the better - we can be self sufficient indefinitely except the need for gas.

Pic of the map for inspiration - stars are places we've been.

Ooh yeah, Cadillac Ranch is on the list now. 72 oz steak maybe not so much - 20 years ago I woulda killed it. Today the tables would likely be turned. I will however see how their filet mignon fares.

White Sands - fack yeah, on the list
Arch has been done, but good suggestion
The steak at St. Elmo's was dope - does it merit a return? We'll see how the rest of the route goes

We lived in Ohio for a few years, and visited and/or drove through Indiana a few times. I would be interested in maybe finding some good wheeling there though. Our last big trip was Phx to Denver by dirt roads and we got to see a lot of Colorado - did some of the passes, but some were still closed. It's definitely on our "Go Back Here" list! We were trying to get from Crested Butte to Aspen via a dirt trail I found, but it thwarted us with weather and a closed road at Pearl Pass. Someday we'll return and conquer that one.

We'd love to meet up in NM and hit a couple trails! What city are you in?

Updated route map based on suggestions here and elsewhere:

That route above is just a rough draft at this point. It's fairly wide open to adding and subtracting locations. I'll throw Grants in the mix and see how it all turns out

No way! I had to go to court in Martins Ferry - for reasons and stuff. Lisa was born in Wheeling since it was the closest hospital at the time.

Lisa's dad is buried in Cadiz. Her mom actually lives in Barnesville or Bathesda, I can never really remember which. If you're still in OH, we should meet up for a beer or a trail, or both!
