Quite a bit of cutting. I completed it in ~3 full days or so this summer iirc, so it wasn't unbearable. Welding the thin sheet metal is the most tedious task I'd have to say. Not welding for a couple years, then committing to giant holes in the truck was also a bit nerve racking haha.

UPDATE: Driving the truck currently; reservoir and sprayers fully functional now. No idea as to why things started working, but I'm not complaining.

    This build is awesome.
You're encouraging me to make questionable decisions with my own truck. :D

That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Imagine 5100s on the second notch (+.5") and 315s. Tubbed and basically stock height so it drives well on the freeway but can still party when needed.

That's going to be a lot of cutting / you'll likely be trimming off the bottom door mount and upper portion of the fender / wheel well (getting into the engine bay) in the process. Personally I like mild lift (~2" - 2/5") to help get the front of the truck off the ground. Airing down the larger 315's on the trail almost acts like a second suspension on it's own.

I referenced these two builds when tubbing the Tundra, as well as experience from doing the same to my old Tacoma:
    Stock UCAs for tub: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rickashays-04-tundra-the-legend-of-doug.351909/
    Uniballs for tub: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/seanpistols-first-gen-tundra.467483/

I have those two builds saved for reference as well.

With regards to cutting, I don't see how it'd be any more cutting than what you did. The tubs/trims are required at full compression, so where it rides should make no difference.
    **I could be wrong.

Your comments echo something similar to Tanner / his Tacoma build iirc.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mrbeggins-04-tacoma-build.269822/page-5#post-7366742
The logic makes sense, I just feel like everyone has different results / amnt they need to cut depending on setup. Adjustable UCAs can help push the wheels where you want / you'll need spacers to clear frame - I still have slight rub at full lock.

Yeah, I'm struggling like hell to find wheels in the spec I want. I've been looking for a 17x8 with 3.5"BS. All I've found are non-DOT race wheels or full custom. If I step down to 16s, they're everywhere.
My truck is still stock, so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible and then start piecing it together as smartly and efficiently as possible. I was hoping to avoid UCAs by keeping the lift minimized.

I'll try and remember to grab some reference photos of space between UCA and tire for you later today. You may be able to get away without your stock UCAs rubbing tire with 3.5" backspacing, but I believe stock UCAs also stick out a bit more than aftermarkets. I'm at ~3"BS when you account for wheel spacers.

Edit: Mind you, this is coming from a 3rd Gen Tacoma thread, you might find value (in your favor) in this brief explanation:

I'm in the process of figuring out my washer fluid relocation. How'd you get the sensor out? Mine seems to be in there pretty solid and I don't want to break it trying to pull it out.

The fluid level sensor? Mine was installed in the bottom of the factory reservoir via a rubber grommet around the actual sensor itself. Pretty sure I just lightly pried it out with a flathead

Thanks. Yes the fluid sensor. Mine felt like it was sealed in there. Apparently I just need to use a screwdriver.

Gears, solid pinion spacers, rear locker (lock right) and clamshell bushing (to eliminate needle bearing in front diff) purchased. Hope to go through with install early January once everything has arrived / the holiday rush is over. Stoked.

    Edit to original post:

I went a different route with gears on this build to save a few bucks. Elite is a company I've never heard of. After chatting with Elite, I didn't get much for info from them other than they are manufactured in Korea and there is no MAP (minimum advertised pricing), thus they are far cheaper than other big name brands. Upon review, gears are 5-cut and look like any other R&P you'd get off shelf. I'm inclined to believe they are running under a bigger name, but I can't speak for certain on that. I scooped up gears and installs for $570 free shipping to my door on Black Friday from a little machining shop in Michigan (Ron's Machining Service). Another change in plans came with the rear locker. I had full intention of running the Powertrax No Slip, but Black Friday came through yet again and I was able to pick up a lock right for under $300. Solid spacers and clamshell bushing were sourced from other BF deals as well.

Curious / excited to see how the gears setup, and/or if I'll be the next guy on a Toyota forum being laughed at or praised for trying to save a buck. But in the end my wallet is happy and I believe the truck will be too.

Repurposed an old Galaxy S5 w/ TorquePro, and installed in the truck with an Elm327 Bluetooth obd2 scanner. Still need to mess around with which displays I'd like to have, as well as get a charging cord with a 90 degree bend to clean up wiring, but overall I'm happy with the app. Seems to cover everything the Ultragauge did when used in my old Tacoma, and then some.

Haven't been on here in a while: dropped the diffs & relating goodies off last weekend for regear and lock. Will update when that is wrapped up, but not a rushed item right now.

Currently in the process of buying a house so that's been eating up all time when I'm not working. No fun over here.

Don't have much for photos, but the truck is regeard to 4.88 and locked in the back.

The budget Elite gears setup just fine and do not make any sounds. The lockright locker is there, but far more quiet and manageable on paved roads than I was anticipating. Hoping to get a little snow sometime soon so I can see how squirrely it truly is on the road under snowy conditions.

Otherwise just plugging away with break in right now. Hope to hit a trail soon to see how everything operates under such conditions.

I haven't had a chance to get up to highway/interstate speeds during initial break in - 50mph has been my max as I take late night strolls on a long straight road (have to travel in 4wd mind you). Accel is far better than stock gearing for sure, and shifting / rmps on inclines is vastly improved. I drive like an old man either way, so interstate speeds are typically set at 65mph. I can report back possibly this weekend if I get a chance to take it on the interstate, though.

Took a stroll through recent snowfall this morning to test the locker. It honestly performs better in slick conditions than an open differential or lsd in my opinion. Not once do/did I feel unsafe, or squirreliness that is commonly assumed of lunchbox lockers. In 4wd, it drives just the same as factory.

I'm really enjoying the new gearing. It has brought shift points back to stock and vastly improved the low range I'd been lacking prior to. This thing is a friggin' tank now.

Nice truck. I wish you still had flares, but it still looks good. We did a similar intake setup too. I really like mine. Keep it coming.

Sold the Fundra today. I'll be joining the 5.7 gents to accommodate dirtbikes and the family as soon as I sell a kidney for a down payment.

Edit: I am now a loser. It fits everything nicely, tho.
