I have been a BIG fan of the Pedal Commander and have enjoyed the increased performance over the past 2.5 years.

Last month, on the Friday before Memorial Day, I was headed out of town with my wife and kids in my 2005 Tundra DC equipped with a Pedal Commander. While accelerating up a freeway onramp and preparing to merge into the first lane of traffic, my truck went into limp mode with no power. All of the VSC lights and Check Engine lights came on. I braced to be blasted by a large commercial truck traveling at about 70 MPH. It missed us by less than two feet! If it had not swerved at the last minute into the second lane (where it sideswiped a car and spun it around into yet another car), my family and I would possibly be dead.

I was barely able to coast/sputter to the shoulder of the freeway, where I sat shaking from the shock of having my life flash before my eyes.

My truck was towed to my mechanic's shop. He scanned it and came up with code P2121—“Accelerator module.” He removed the PC38 from my truck, which was clipped in tightly, and immediately the code cleared and the dashboard warning lights went away.

And for the past three weeks, my truck drives perfectly. NOTE: My truck has only 74k miles and is meticulously maintained.

This is the SECOND time a P2121 problem with the Pedal Commander has left me stranded and in a dangerous situation. (You can search for it on this forum).

Pedal Commander refused my request to refund the $227 purchase price but offered me a new module. They must think I am stupid.

Instead, I sent the faulty PC38 to the Consumer Product Safety Commission with a letter of explanation. I hope that you never experience what happened to me.

Banks has a good video explaining how this happens and why (marketing for his new pedal device, but working at the dealer it is 100% correct info

Whoa! Glad you and your family are ok.

Sucks for the others in the accident and assume they are fine?

Did you pay with a credit card? My CC has refunded me in similar instances. That's what I would try. Sorry this happened to you.

All the people involved were OK. Two cars and one truck damaged. Lots of nerves.

    Thanks for asking.

Lots of used pedal commander units might be hitting the marketplace. Should be on the anvil! Sounds like op should have purchased a powerball ticket that Friday!

I've always thought the pedal commander was stupid, this confirms it. Glad everybody was okay, now I'm showing my buddy so maybe he can throw his away.

The best throttle tune would be through ECU modification. But still waiting on a crack for ours

Well damn; now I am paranoid about my pedal commander. I have t had any problems like this but certainly don’t want to find myself in a similar situation. Glad everyone is ok and healthy.

That said, I went to banks website - doesn’t look like there is a module available for a 2019 tundra. Has one been released or are they just out of stock?

I am glad i saw issues with this thing the first week i got it so it was still in the return period. They offered me a new one as well but i told them i have safety concerns with it and they left it alone after that and issued my refund.

Im having a change of heart. I sure wouldn’t want to be in that situation, with my wife and kids.

I know alot of people like it, but i didnt, even before the surging started. The lead in for the throttle was just too sensitive, it made me realize i appreciated the bit of slop that comes with the stock throttle feel.

Pedal Commander has been out for quite some time but with very rare software/firmware updates over the years. iDrive and Hikeit are very similar to the P Commander but the newer kids on the block. It surely sucks what happened to the OP. Glad no one was hurt. That being said, I haven't seen or come across anything remotely similar with the iDrive or Hikeit. There are settings on both I'd never use. Way too sensitive but there are settings that are quite practical for normal everyday driving. Mind you, what I've researched was on the 07's and up. A different bird altogether as far as ECU.

1st gens don’t get that fancy treatment.

I argue the 1st gens pedal is too touchy stock. Lol

Does this only apply to the 2005 and 2006? Obviously we are in the legendary first gen forum so any talk of 2007 or newer is pointless.

When towing and I have cruise set my truck will downshift and go to town. When I try to do it myself the transmission wont shift unless I really hammer the pedal. I usually pull the shifter down to 3 and do it myself. Why?

I was thinking about getting something that does what Pedal Commander does but I don't know how it performs or compares to the "Tow Haul" button so I have kind of put those questions on the back burner. I have putting all three brain cells to work on the components of the lift kit and how to convince the wife that the lift kit is a good thing. Finally I just told her that I am doing it because I want to and that I completely accept the fact that she will never ever understand the concept of the desire to build a truck. That went over real well. I had to promise to pay off her 4Runner. The parts will be here around the middle of August. 10k for the parts, 40k for the 4Runner. That didn't turn out how I thought it would.

For me, I have read way too many of these threads on different forums when failure happens, the truck goes into limp mode.

Right now I have the Edge CTS3 monitor and could upgrade to the tuner plus get the Amped Pedal booster. Same problems as others. Once I change out my injection pump to handle a little more fuel, I will be selling my Edge and buying Banks with the pedal monster.

I just can’t have these kind of issues towing 24k combined.
