If you ever plan on OC'ing go liquid cooler. I'll never go back to air again. Aorus - I love everything they do! Had an Aorus dual GPU laptop and it was one of the best performing laptops I have ever owned and that's after my foray into Alienware

You mean terminal stuff,, iSeries, AS400. They are bullet proof, we still have IBM iSeries in our plants.
Frame rate on Need for Speeds sucks though...

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
Built my HTPC last July. Went with an AMD 2400G in the ASROCK Deskmini A300. Threw in 16GB of RAM, a 256 SSD, and a Noctua fan to keep it quiet and it handles anything I throw at it. Of course I mostly play Fire Pro and ROMS but this little critter can handle some newer stuff since I have it set to 720p. No complaints and you can never go wrong building your own PC.

I've built quite a few over the years. My current one I've been rocking for about 5 years now, but it's still good. Updated the video card to a 1080 ti last year, and upped the ram to 32 gb. It's got an i7-5930k on an ASUS deluxe 2011 motherboard. I originally put it in a Silverstone case that I repainted and had a radiator mounting plate fabricated for. Hard line tubing for the water cooling system. But that radiator eventuality sprung a leak, so I replaced the case, tubing, radiator, fans, and video card all in one go.

That's my biggest fear using liquid coolers...once it leaks everything's gotta go

Agreed... my rigs usually go a long time (5+ years) hence the air cooling... if I ever upgraded from stock cooler it would be for a Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4 or Noctua NH-D15, they perform just as well or better than AIO liquid coolers

    In the process of de-chroming....
Was going to post a sweet pic of my rig. Only to realize I need to get the dust bunnies out and that my kid drew on the side of it... God damn it, this is why we can't have nice things....

Does the GPU do Ray Trace? Pretty slick setup and ditto on nice things with kids around. I have my PC blocked off and if the kids draw on it well I told them there won't be another birthday in their future. AMD makes great CPUs but I had an issue with a driver bricking a GPU back in the day so now I don't do em

Yeah, air coolers are the way to go if you don't want to worry about anything other than dust. GPU's are where most of the heat is at anyways, and a custom loop for cooling the GPU can cost as much as the whole computer! They are fun though.

Can any of you computer knowledgeable people recommend a reliable Computer UPS? Many of the ones I have looked at have reviews where they fail or catch on fire.

    hehe! love a good sleeper!

I've built 4 (all gaming rigs) of my own and 3 for friends and family. I wouln't consider it a hobby for me, more a very fleeting moment that I get to enjoy every few years. Still game a lot though!

APC and TrippLite are good brands, CyberPower is another big player but have no experience with them. The most reliable power banks are usually left for business applications and so are priced at a premium.
I know it can be a b*** to keep track of the battery's health, but they do go bad, so keep in mind you'll have to change it sometime, just like you do with a car's battery... the interval can vary.

    I use CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD 1500 VA 900 Watts

    https://www.newegg.com/cyberpower-cp1500avrlcd-nema-5-15r/p/N82E16842102048
    https://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP1500AVRLCD-Intelligent-Outlets-Mini-Tower/dp/B000FBK3QK

They are very reliable and have a 3 year warranty on them. If possible, I get a 5 year extended coverage plan, as it usually dies before the 5 years are up, so I get my money back or a replacement for free. :)

My current one needed a new battery early and they sent me a replacement free of charge, very quickly. (I ended up using the old one for my gate opener battery.)

I build PCs as well. Gaming is what got me started back during my college years. But the upgrades also slowed down for me after I got married, with my last upgrade being March of last year after my GTX 1070 died. I managed to get my hands on a RTX 2060 Super about a month later, and then a 3070 shortly after. While I was at it I decided to grab new RAM and a Ryzen 5 5600. It was an easy/drop-in upgrade being that my main board was already using the same socket.

I was never into all the pretty lights and had the same solid (no window) tower case for roughly 15 years lol. But I finally gave it a go with this last build. So here it is, and also my workspace (I telecommute full time) where I spend at least 8 hours a day M-F (I'm an application developer). I also assembled a home theater around my desk over the years, which I'm currently running a 5.2.4 Atmos preamp/amp setup. Have to say, gaming in Atmos (or DTS:Neural X for not Atmos games) is nuts! Getting chased around by Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 remake (which support Atmos) is heart-pounding with his footsteps above and all around.

49" Super Ultrawide gaming monitor, processor/amp to the left, and dual keyboards/mice. The top keyboard is dedicated to the gaming rig, the other is on a 4-port KVM switch so that I can switch between 2 work laptops, my laptop (pic further below), and also the gaming rig.

Samsung 50" KS8000 TV mounted above for 4k HDR movies, and additional monitor for work. So my workspace is essentially 3 1080 monitors. All that real estate makes productivity/work so much better! I could never go back to a single 1080 display for work ever again. And I won't apologize for the GB plugs. :D
    [IMG]

I also picked up an Asus RTX 3070 gaming laptop not long after so I can hang with the wife in the living room and game while she watches her shows.

I kicked the 2060 Super down to my son and helped him with his first build. He wanted all red.
