I have same truck as you, it crossed my mind to flatbed it for hauling, but thinking about adding 2,500 lbs on top of the flabed makes me wonder about supporting the load with coils and then the ride unloaded. Im not worried about the stout frame or the axle housing

I just picked up a 23 crewmax 6.5 limited with air suspension, moonroof, tow mirrors. No bedliner. Full tank of gas.
    GVWR on the door: 7365.
Monroney Sticker payload: 1390 (minus 22lb per additional sticker).
Scale weight: 5860 (flipping between 5840 and 5860).
    “Actual” payload= 7365-5860=1505lb.

I will only be towing a 5500lb camper. However I will be hauling about 1800lb possibly a little more, while towing that camper. Do you think I need a 3/4 ton for that?

Given that the 1800 lbs on its own is already more than the payload capacity of the Tundra before you've put anything else in the truck or hitched up the trailer, yes.

That 1800lbs does include the 600lb tongue weight. The other 1200lbs is the wife, myself, generator, bicycles and porta-bote gear.

If my wife saw me make a statement that began with “the other 1200lbs is the wife” I’d be so dead.

Seems that your payload is probably around 1500 lb. So that would put you 300 lb over.

I'm around that much over sometimes. Pretty rarely. I just make sure it's properly distributed so that neither axle is overloaded. When towing, that means using a WDH.

Still over your payload, though not as much. I think the 3rd Gen axle ratings are a little lower than the 2nd Gen so have to watch that too.

Always a WDH. Yes, sometimes I’m over a couple of hundred without loading all my stuff on. I think I’m going to have to go to a 2500 though, because in a couple of years I’ll be retiring and I’m gonna need all my toys with me on long runs. I can’t be that much overweight permanently. It might look silly towing such a small camper with a huge truck. The bed will be loaded up though. I still have some time to think this out. Thanks for your replies y’all.

Keep in mind that a WDH will transfer some weight to the trailer axle(s) and reduce some weight on the truck rear axle. But using air bags will negate some of that truck load weight reduction as it will bring some trailer axle weight back to the truck rear axle. It's not obvious to think about it that way and I had to see the explanation of how WDH works to get this myself.

I heard about that with the airbags. That’s why I ordered a portable scale from Germany. The Reigh weight control, so I can go crazy weighing every possible configuration of my rig. I can’t wait till it gets here. I’ll post pics of this thing, sounds pretty sweet. Also, I don’t have airbags. I’ll probably keep away from them in the future as well. Thank you for the reply dude.

Figured I would try a CAT scale while we were out for a drive today.

2023 Limited CM (Pano roof) 5.5 TRD OR. I switched factory tires to KO2s at the same size (265/70R18) and added TRD running boards, that’s it. Full tank of gas (32 gal).

No one in truck: 5920 lbs
Me, wife, two teenagers: 6600 lbs

The difference in weight between empty truck and the four of us checks out, but I feel both readings are a few hundred pounds high. I’ve read through this entire thread and 5920 lbs feels too high for my trim even with the marginal changes I’ve made. The registration paper says the shipping/curb weight was 5490 lbs, so a difference over 400 lbs??? Apparently my tires are 55 lbs and the factory ones are 37 lbs. That’s just an increase of 72 lbs. I can’t imagine the cast aluminum running boards are hundreds of pounds..?

Are CAT scales ever off? Maybe I should try the other one in the city and compare.

At 5920 lbs my payload is 1311 lbs! Heck my door sticker says 1400 lbs… This thread was giving me hope I would see the number get bigger, not smaller! o_O

I found a nearby CAT scale that was off by some 2000 pounds, yes, 2k pounds. Obviously it needed repair. Don't know what they typically run. I do have a local garbage dump that has a scale on the way in and another on the way out so they can measure how much you dropped off. I went through empty both ways and they were identical. It read out to the nearest 20 pounds. Hope this helps some :)

Heavier tires and whatever stuff you have in the truck seems to account for the 89 lb difference from your sticker. You would have the only 3rd Gen with an accurate sticker so far if those numbers are all correct, though.
