Parts list for adding OEM trans cooler to 5.7l

Thanks for your work on this (_none_), I saw the same temperatures and decided to do something similar. Purchased the same cooler and designed a bracket. Finally got all the parts and planning on doing the install this weekend.

 

Weird question:

I have half of the kit, mainly the Toyota thermostat, Setrab 9 Series 15 row cooler, 21 feet of 3/8" appropriate hose, a cooler mounting bracket(needs to have holes drilled and painted). (direct quote from the seller)
I got the stuff, solid bracket and everything.

However, due to time constrain, even with my friend's help, we might not have enough to button everything up in one go, which we are limited to less than 6 hours, plus need to drop and re-install CAT plates.
Can I just drill/install the actual cooler, thermostat and then do the hoses connection at a later date?
I think the cooler is fine if just installed/bolted to the frame, but what of the thermostat? I read somewhere I need to remove the factory heat puck and re-install heat puck on top of the thermostat, so would that be an issue if the lines are not in place? Or just do the cooler and tackle the thermostat next time with all the lines?

Also, what size bolts do I need?

 

I guess you could install the thermostat and put a piece of hose from the inlet to outlet. Just watch the exhaust. Make sure the hose doesn't kink, probably needs to be a certain length. I can't remember if I used the same bolts for the puck/thermostat. The hard lines are by far more difficult than everything else to install. I thought about doing without the Toyota hard lines, but that area looks problematic with heat and wear.

 

Heat will always be the issue and most lines would suffer from that, metal ones are even worse due to heating.....
I think I will just bolt the cooler and worry about the thermostat at another time.

I did the DIY install with the parts on this thread like a year ago. My temp hasn’t seen 200F since.

 

Cool story bro. You quoted a 2-year old post. I bought mine when it was around half of what he is asking now. At this price, I'd do it myself. And nah, I'm not going to gtfo.

 

I was suggested to use heat shield wrap for the rubber lines. I mean, yea and nay....
Kinda on the fence about it. Rubber makes it easier to route, heat shield would def help heat issue.
But hard lines would last longer? I guess? But PITA to install/route due to it being "hard line"

 

My mechanic did soft lines the whole way, got about 20K miles on his set up with no isuses. However, I will be swapping out the cooler and mounting to free up space.

 

So I have everything exept my hardline bolts. What size are they? I'm not seeing them in the diagram for the "Trans Oil Cooler".

 

M8x1.25 around 1/2” or so. Make sure the bolts tighten prior to bottoming out.

Based on the bold print at the bottom, and based on the price difference between the model year ranges, I'd say "Yes" everything is included. WAT's own videos on the coolers themselves is also a pretty good watch if you have time. Same companies and people we had the GB with for the upgraded valve bodies.

Ah, I did not even check the prior MY, I just checked mine, lol...
In that case, this is a very good set/price point.

 

I'm not authoritative, so I could be wrong. lol

Johnny is the real deal so I suspect he's got it all sorted, but hopefully he'll chime in. That price point is not bad at all for someone looking for the easy button.

 

Seems to be a pretty good price compared to the $1300 from the other guy. But I got everything I need for my keep with the 20 row Setrab cooler for $695. I think all I need now is a couple hose spring clamps, two grommets and some ATF Fluid.
