Yep, the guy told me he once tinted a Tesla and the entire roof was glass and the whole thing shattered. The repair cost was about $6,000 dollars and there was several months wait because it was on backorder.

My tiny shop said they would not tint any darker than 30% due to the risk of shattering. I’m considering a 70% ceramic.

Correct, you want a TSER (Total Solar Energy Rejection) Film, not necessarily just dark film. It rejects the infrared and ultraviolet light. 3M Crystalline is the best, but hard to find a good installer here in the Carolinas. I have XPEL Prime XR Plus (there are several different grades of XPEL) and its very good, but not the best in my experience.

I don't think dark is important on the sunroof because you can close the fabric shade and totally dark it out, but when the shade is open, the lighter TSER film allows a bunch of light to enter the cabin without the heat.

See my post #34 below. The dark tint traps the heat between the film and the glass. A lighter transparency TSER film is the solution. I've had it for years on my LR4 with a full pano roof and now my Tundra through a hot South Carolina Summer.

3M Crystalline or XPEL Prime XR Plus in 70% or higher is best.

Like others have said, ceramic for the windshield makes a huge difference. I’m in So Cal so it rarely gets extremely hot so fwiw.

Things like windshield visors and window visors from weathertech, (so you can leave your windows cracked) etc. make a big difference for when the trucks parked too.

Ya I put 55% of the front windshield and it made it a little better.

I got my moonroof tinted with 3M ceramic tint. The ceramic makes all the difference in heat transfer. I have left the shade off ever since, the difference was night and day. 1000% recommend doing

I had the 70% 3m Ceramic on my Landrovers windshields and panoroofs. 45% on the side windows... It is the best stuff on the planet. Unfortunately we can't find a good installer around here. You are 1000% right. It is a night and day no brainer.
