Ron and others were a very bad influence on me to spend time and money on this mod. The second gen engine cover is silver, so I painted it black first. Here are paints I used.
    PaintEq.jpg
First I used paint brushes, but I discovered that it's easier to use one of these.
    Sponge.jpg
I was not as patient as Ron, so even though I let the base paint to dry overnight, when I put some clear coat on it, it became milky. So I had to repaint the black part.
    Final result.

    Installed.

Next for me is the fuse box, but I need to make some decals for it first to paint and peel off.

This whole website is a bad influence. I've done things to my truck that I would have never done before. But I've also never owned a truck that I loved as much as this one.

I used the brush shown in the picture for the letter. Then I used sponge for the iForce letter. In hindsight, using the sponge for both would've made it a lot easier.

I paint brushed it. Since I was just going for four short lines, I thought it would be easier to use a brush. Man, it took a long time especially since I am not too good with brushes.

old (zombie) thread, and apologies in advance, but what paint did you use for the various colors?

I’ve seen some RC hobby paints specifically made for plastics, but not sure how they’re going to hold up in heat!

Krylon, VHT (and probably others) have high(er) heat plastic paints that may/will be better.

    Appreciate any suggestions/guidance.

    Thank You
    J

Didn't know this thread existed. The person you quoted hasn't posted since Jan 2024 but he may still respond.

You definitely want a high heat paint. A few of us have used the VHT high heat paint and it seems to do well. (Image of cans is one I saved, I used the same products just not the red). Image with the intake cover visible is after about 2 years of painting the engine cover. Photo of just the cover is right after painting it.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
I'm thinking of painting a Circle K logo on my engine cover. Mainly because my engine sees a lot more of their gas than it sees me.

    :notsure:

Have no idea what pieces you are asking about. But in the red: I'd personally paint the T logo black or silver, the rectangular stamp above that (no idea what it says) something besides red, and those vertical lines at the back maybe silver to match the sides.

Besides that, it's all about what you want.
