Yep. But it does help with pinstriping.

Just get PPF done professionally. 3M carries a 10 year warranty I believe. If you can’t afford all of it at once, I would do the proper wash / decon / correction and get the most vulnerable areas done first then get the others done as you go

its not a matter of affording, its whether I want to afford it. I get the ROI of it but is it really worth that much. Thats where I am stuck I guess.

It depends- do you care about rock chips and paint not fading? I do..it can help with resale to the right buyer should u sell it down the road. You could always just ceramic it and it’ll keep the paint shiny and making washing a breeze too; or go for both. It’s entirely up to you.
I would get several quotes. I’m fortunate as the guy who did mine services many Chevy, Toyota, and Lexus dealerships so he does it on the side, at the shop. Some may screw ur up and get fingerprints inside of it so be sure to check their work before proceeding with said shop

the factory one on the rocker panels is garbage. It is already peeling on the edges. I wouldnt mind doing the front and replacing the factory stuff

Did you have it professionally installed? I live in the Pacific Northwest and have never ever had this problem. It can rain here.

Not sure how many know this, but Ceramic Pro and PPF (can't remember brand) can be registered on your vehicle CarFax report now, tied to your VIN.

Well there's your problem! I kid, but most dealers are not as proficient as a shop that only specializes in coatings and films. While dealers can and do outsource that and have an installer come in or take it to the installer, they usually aren't that great. A reputable installer has their own clientele and a backed up schedule. They don't usually make house calls for a dealership and some dealerships require a specific film and a cut of the money. Dudes that know what they're doing and do it well won't deal with those kinds of terms. I am sure there are some well done installs done at dealerships, I just don't believe it's common.

Anyone apply PPF to the headlights? I really dont care about the paint all that much since its white and pretty forgiving in terms of looking too bad. My concern is the headlights since I live in SoCal and the truck parks outside. I put the factory LED lights on and really dont want to replace them in a few years......

I don't have my headlights done, but its the same process and the same film. I'll probably do that soon when I get the sunroof panel ceramic tinted.

You had an amateur applying your PPF. That's not the fault of the product.

    That sucks though.

Im wondering if the film would have any effects on the light output or diffusion of the light or anything like that?

Not modern day clear films. You would probably want to stay away from any gloss enhancing films, or tinted films. I'm one of those that thinks tinted headlights and tail lights are absolutely dumb. Why in the world would you want to limit someone's ability to see your brake lights brightly and clearly, or limit your headlight's ability to beam the road? Anyways, I digress. If you are worried about heat, you're getting more heat from the sun in summer than those LED lamps are putting out, so that won't be an issue. The clarity, diffusion, halo type effect should be negligible if any. I think pitted out, yellowing, and hazing lamps down the road would be worse than the likely unnoticeable if any degradation from a clear PPF.

Yes, I've been applying PPF to the headlights for as long as I can remember. No problems whatsoever. Just had it done on my wife's 450NX. You can't even tell that it's on the lights or anywhere else on the car and it's essentially applied all over the car.

Just be sure to go to a reputable installer.

Glad to hear some information from people who have done it. I looked into doing the install myself, with no experience, and it seems like the tundra has one of the harder headlights to do, so I might just pay someone to do it. I hate yellowed or fogged up lights. Problem is with no experience, not sure what a good price is or even a ballpark of what they should cost. Any ideas?

You really shouldn't pay more than $200 for a pair of headlights. The shop I use which is the best in the Kansas City area is less than $200 for both if it doesn't require any correction prior to install.

Thats kind of what I was guessing and that is also about the limit of what I would be willing to pay since thats about the cost of 1 headlight anyway.

In this day and age, it's not only the cost of a headlight, it's when said replacement headlight makes it from production to your truck.

I just got a quote for the headlights alone with Xpel film for 125 bucks. Not bad at all. Anyone have any experience with this brand of film?

Well that certainly helps me make the decision to pull the trigger haha. They said it comes with a 10 year warranty, which sounds great, but of course I have not read the fine print. They did ask if the headlights were new, which they are at under 15 months old, but they would need to be clay barred or cleaned really well first I imagine.

Xpel is great, I wouldn't say it's the best like the post above, but it's premium. They all have things they're better at than the other. It's like saying 75 degrees outside is better than 76 or 74 degrees. There's no real big difference. I always say go with what the installer specializes in. Sometimes that's Xpel, sometimes that's premium shield, sometimes it's suntek. They're all pretty much on par with each other.

My Lunar Rock TRD Pro is getting built and I already have an appointment to get wrapped in Xpel Stealth PPF. I’m getting entire truck in stealth with black A-pillars and headlights in clear. They also ceramic coat the entire thing including wheels and will put tint on front windows. Total cost is about $6500 which is far less than some had quoted ($12k+). Xpel is guaranteed for 10 years

Xpel is pretty good stuff. 13mils thick and self healing like Kusala said. I live in Colorado Mountains so rock chips, mag chloride in the winters, and all kinds of crap goes everywhere.

Finished result will look like this Lunar Rock 4Runner which is also wrapped in stealth.

I just dropped my 22 Tundra off today for a full Xpel PPF wrap. I'm more worried about the installer's ability than the quality of the wrap. I got quoted ~$7500 which should cover every painted surface. To affirm some comments above that is alot of money, so why would I bother?

First, I had Xpel put on my 2019 Subaru Forester, and man does it still look good. My only regret was doing just the full front, and not the whole car. The biggest reason is I am starting to see where the paint is getting scratched from road debris and dust, but the parts that are wrapped still look like day 1. For those that wonder, this is in spite of using a very careful/ocd 3 bucket car wash method and never taking it through anything but a touchless car wash. I also regularly use a ceramic boost product that adds a hydrophobic aspect to the Subaru that in my opinion also extends the amount of time my washes last.

Second, I'm way too OCD about the cleanliness of my cars and PPF is a huge time saver. I legit can just use 1 mit to do the whole vehicle and just get in there and scrub off those stuck on bug guts and feel confident it won't scratch it or create swirls.

Third, I'm going to put my truck to work: I've got landscaping projects, carpentry projects, and hauling to do and I don't want to worry about what falls over the side of my truck bed or a skid steer/excavator bucket, this isn't bullet proof, but I'll worry alot less.

Fourth, I want my truck to last a long time and look good as long as it can. Xpel is warrantied up to ten years. There's not even a single sign of yellowing on my Subaru's film, which I think would be really noticeable given that it's white. Even if these films aren't improved like they're claimng I'm keeping my cars in a garage where the sun doesn't shine and since I don't commute anymore I won't really leave it in a lot for extended amounts of time.

Fifth, because of just how few Tundras have been made over the past few years there is going to be a huge dearth where a bunch of used Tundras would have been. If I do need to liquidate the Tundra due to financial difficulty, this makes the time to sell, and appeal alot better.

Sixth, these trucks are super expensive. I mean out side of my mortgage the most expensive purchase I've ever made, doing some protection just adds up for my peace of mind.

If it's a good product it won't act like the painful yellowing hardened stuff that other people have reported dealing with in the past. Ultimately PPF is amazing at preserving what's underneath, so in my opinion act quickly in wrapping your vehicle if you want it to look like it did on the day you picked it up.

As an aside when I dropped the truck off saw some pretty sweet stealth wraps in progress. FCF95628-2BC1-4CA5-8B1A-F58165CC6E7A_1_105_c.jpg 0E93C00F-7EF9-4A0A-8987-860FFFACF1B1_1_105_c.jpg
