p2617 engine code

    Hey yall, I was driving the tundra last night and had to hit the brakes pretty hard abruptly. Immediately afterward the check engine light came on and I noticed that when I first pressed the accelerator the engine did not engage.
    Gave it the good ole "it'll fix itself overnight in the garage", however that didn't work. This morning I drove to Orileys to get the code read and every time I had to accelerate, I had to press and depress the gas pedal at least 4 times for the engine to accelerate. The code was p2617.
    Google says I should repair or replace the crank sensor wiring harness, connector, or replace the shorted crank sensor.
    Curious to see if anyone else had this issue and what their fix was to it.

    Did you want to give us any details at all about your truck so we have an inkling of a clue what you're dealing with? I assume DC based on the pic, but ...

    2006 toytota tundra
    double cab sr5 4.7L v8
    2wd

    Really just trying to learn how others have dealt with this problem, or how someone might deal with this problem. Thanks

    Did you have the timing belt serviced within the last 12 months/few thousand miles?

    Have you gotten under the front of the engine to check the crank position sensor wiring harness to confirm it's not gotten nicked by the serpentine belt?

    A common problem when getting timing belt replaced, the crank position sensor harness doesn't get correctly routed, flops out, and gets nicked.

    More info is in the newbie thread. Under the last point in the electrical section:

    • These trucks usually don't have a ton of other electrical issues. Hidden corrosion inside the battery/alt cables happens. Sometimes, a couple thousand miles after timing belt changes, people will have startup issues because the crank position sensor wasn't properly tucked away and gets rubbed by a belt (pic).
