So, pushing some nerdiness into the convo - - At 99% or so the speed of light (the speed of light can't be achieved by anything with mass, because the rules of spacetime have that mass increasing until just about infinity as it gets closer - the space version of atmospheric resistance) the closest systems with even a chance at life are about 4.25 years away.. It's worth noting that getting to that speed would cost way more energy than would be available to something with the mass of what we currently suppose are UFOs, nevermind the energy to slow back down as they got close. So, on the wild chance that Proxima Centauri B can support life (the star is severely hostile to its exoplanets), it would cost our closest neighbors 9 years or so for a round trip. Unless they don't need food, those 10-foot tall aliens that landed in Vegas the other day would need probably about 2 tons per year each. So if we're going to suppose these aliens live in a universe of science, and not science fiction, then the possibilities are a bit limited.

Aliens could be visiting from inside our solar system, but if they're in their space age, wouldn't we be able to see sattelites around their planet like we have?

Aliens, ghosts, bigfeets, vampires, mermaids... You'll have to hit me in the head with them before I'll believe they exist.

I would say you're correct, when looking at it from a human point of view. This is where the debate gets interesting. Throw out everything we currently know about biology and physics. Consider the perspective of a race of beings that have been around 100,000 or 1,000,000 years more than humans who don't have the physical requirements we do.

What if the aliens have figured out worm holes?

What if they've developed a warp drive similar to on Star Trek, which develops a subspace bubble around the starship that distorts the spacetime continuum and allows the ship to exceed the speed of light?

What if aliens aren't remotely humanoid, they could be closer to insects or maybe even energy beings so food, air, water etc aren't of any concern to them?

I find it a conundrum where the rational side of me says that scientifically it seems unlikely, but I still don't want to fully rule it out because we really don't know what we don't know.

I'm just some dumdum who lives in a remote corner of Hoth with long, cold winters and an active imagination though, so I'm probably full of crap.

I can imagine all of that, but it's firmly in the realm I'd call science fiction. I read the other day that mamals are very unusual in that most evolution produces things that look more like crabs, so I imagine a race of aliens that need a bath in garlic butter with a side of corn on the cob and a cheese biscuit.

I think the possibility of aliens that originated inside our solar system seems more possible. And they're just waiting on us to kill ourselves so they can take over.

There's a good statistical chance that there are other places in the universe where life developed. The same materials that make up our planet and us, are the same everywhere. If there's a place that has advanced life that developed space travel, they haven't been here.
There are people who spend their life looking at the sky and into space. Serious, intelligent people. They have nothing to report. The only people who see UFOs and get abducted are people with single digit IQs, people with psychological damage and people making TV shows,....to make money on the broken and dumb.
There absolutely will be an alien attack someday. They'll have all of you hiding in your basements, huddled around your cellphones, waiting for directions and updates. They just did this a few years ago. So, we know it works.
And once they defeat the aliens and let you out of your holes, the world will be different.

Well, before I met my wife, I dated a Canadian chick for a while. She introduced me to poutine. Had things worked out and I continued to date her, I'd be dead by now.

I like all this is based off of OUR human level of intelligence and understanding of science. There is/may be so much more information that we are limited to by our planet and mental capacities. I'm not saying they are or are not out there, just stating things I've thought about
