It’s in you. I’m a plumber to. For me everything that made me a good plumber stemmed from tinkering with my cars. It used to really make my mom mad when I took apart her favorite things to figure out how they worked LOL hey mom I fixed the VCR but I lost half the screws LMFAO

Funny you say that. My dad was a plumber and everything I learned I learned from him as he was very mechanically inclined as well. He didn’t pay anybody to fix anything, whether it be around the house or on the truck, boat, guns, etc. im now 35 and very much the same way. I’ve been tinkering with cars my whole life. My father has since passed and my wife can’t believe I’m so mechanically able to do everything. It’s just in the blood I guess. I’m now a project manager for a large civil gc and working on getting my master plumbing license as well.

When I was a young teen I used to cut pipe and be a gopher for my uncle. But at 18 years old I was a box boy at a grocery store and got offered a job as a plumbers helper. Mostly residential, I learned from a really good guy. Not much official schooling other than backflow testing. I really liked doing camera sewer inspections and location. I stayed with that guy for 15 years. I ventured into working for a couple of commercial outfits doing mostly service. Then moved around to a few jobs until I got in at a school district. It’s been 22 years of plumbing.

And the whole time I was doing all of this I had plans to become a firefighter. Life got in the way. But it’s all good, I love what I do still.
